“He’s One Of The Dopest Producers On The Microphone”

[Each week, SOHH asks two entertainment personalities to name their Top 5 rappers of all-time. To make things tricky, we’ve created a “Hall of Fame” of emcees (see right) who are universally respected and therefore may not be mentioned. After Crooked I poured out his fave five, producer J. Rawls names his top hitmakers.]

  • erick-sermond-2012-05-17.jpgErick Sermon. Erick Sermon is lyrically crazy. Some of the stuff he says is just crazy. I know it’s been a while since he’s been out so some people may look at me like, “Why did you name him?” But I think, personally, he’s one of the dopest producers on the microphone.

  • pete-rock-2012-05-17.jpgPete Rock. He’s probably my favorite producer that grabs the mic. When he grabs the mic, I listen. He demands that attention.

  • large-professor-2012-05-17.jpgLarge Professor. Large Professor has been one of my favorite emcees since looking out the front door. He’s just one of those emcees that hits it out the park every time he busts rhymes.

  • diamond-d-2012-05-17.jpgDiamond D. Diamond D is amazing. I love his wordplay. Even if you listen to his Score with the Fugees. He’s lyrical. People just don’t listen. People don’t listen to producers. That’s why I’m saying my Top 5 like this.

  • oddisee-2012-05-17.jpgOddisee. I love Oddisee. When he rhymes, it’s about delivery. Delivery is what sets you apart. So many artists out there have punchlines. Not that many dudes can deliver the words in a next level format. That’s what Oddisee does for me. It’s all about his delivery.
