“He’s Not No Bullsh*t Motherf*cker”

Written By S. Samuel

[Each week, SOHH asks two entertainment personalities to name their Top 5 rappers of all-time. To make things tricky, we've created a "Hall of Fame" of emcees (see right) who are universally respected and therefore may not be mentioned. After West Coast newcomer V-Nasty gave us her fave five last week, The Pharcyde's SlimKidTre names his top spitters.]

  • saul-williams.jpgSaul Williams. He’s number one on my list. I’ve watched him perform and he appeared on one of my albums. It’s like he’s an activist too. He’s not no bullsh*t motherf*cker. He’s trying to let people know about corporations and trying to put out some serious knowledge out there for you. People go and buy Saul’s music. He will definitely elevate your consciousness. He is very deep and I know this from knowing the brother. He tries to bring you back to your culture and heritage.

  • Black ThoughtBlack Thought. He’s in there for just how consistent he is. He brings you into reality. The reality is life rap. He’s talking about your day-to-day and how hard sh*t might be. He’s trying to feed his kids and do different things. I wish I could quote some of his sh*t right now.

  • Andre 3000Andre 3000. He’s always taking us on a journey. He’s always taken us on that cosmic journey. He was always about the intellect style. He was always about making us realize we’re much more than humanbeings. He’s always been on it.

  • JadakissJadakiss. I just like Jadakiss because what he talks about, it seems like he [actually] does. It’s just how he talks about it. When he talks, it’s him being real. There’s no fronting or anything fake about him. Sometimes when I listen to gangster rap, I feel like I can pick up on when somebody’s faking. And he ain’t one of them.

  • gaknew-roxwel.jpgGaknew Roxwel. I went to go see him perform live just like I went to see Saul Williams and I listened to some of his music. Just listening to him do his lines, he just brings [them] to life. The pain he’s feeling through each song and each verse, it’s the common man. He brings you to that common man reality. He’s not talking about driving no fancy cars, he’s talking about working at FedEx and how hard it is to just make ends meet.
