[Each week, SOHH asks two entertainment personalities to name their Top 5 rappers of all-time. To make things tricky, we’ve created a “Hall of Fame” of emcees (see right) who are universally respected and therefore may not be mentioned. After Masta Ace dished out his top choieces, Young Money’s Torion Sellers unveils his fave five.]
Lil Wayne. You already know what that is. Much love. He’s just a great artist. If you’ve ever been to the studio to see him freestyle, [it’s amazing]. I saw him do it so he’s just my favorite artist.
Common. Common is just a legendary artist. He’s a legendary rapper to me. His rhymes really mean something. When he raps, you can feel it. I understand what he’s saying. With some rappers, I don’t really know what they’re saying. But with Common, you can understand every word he’s saying.
Drake. The thing I like about Drake is how he’s able to get the ladies with his voice, the singing. It’s kind of like me. Then he can switch over to rapping. Either way he can get you. I do mean that literally.
Curren$y. Curren$y just sounds like everybody can vibe out to him. Everybody can get down with him. It’s that certain vibe that he’s got that’s just different from everybody else. Everybody can feel his music.
Cassidy. My cousin put me onto Cassidy. I’ve seen a lot of his videos and I remember he did a song about this one girl and the beat was stupid good. The way he vibed on the record, it made me realize he’s a dope rapper. I can tell a dope rapper by the way they can ride to the beat and use certain words. Cassidy really has the potential.
