[After landing a deal with Snoop Dogg’s Doggy Style Records, hip-hop newcomer Heebz Street tells SOHH why the Dogg Father is a rap icon.]
Just listening to Snoop Dogg, there’s no way you can’t view him as an idol. I look at him the same way I look at Dr. Dre, the same way I look at 2Pac.
To me, he ‘is’ hip-hop. He is the face. That’s how I view Snoop Dogg. He’s just a mogul and incredible.
As far as my appreciation for hip-hop, I try to study hip-hop as much as possible and take it as far as to the roots as possible with DJ Kool Herc.
I’m not as familiar going all the way back with Kurtis Blow but Eric B. and Rakim, I’m a big fan of them. I feel with this generation, I go pretty far back with hip-hop.
Old-school-wise, it’s about paying homage. I grew up listening to the old-school and I still listen to them today.
