Maybach Music Group's Gunplay can finally exhale and breathe a sigh of relief as reports claim he will not serve any additional time for a publiclzed felony gun case.
Details of the good news started circulating online Monday (February 25) afternoon.
9:20 AM PT — Gunplay tells TMZ, the first thing he’s going to do now that the case is dismissed … is roll a fat joint … oh yeah, then spend time with his “loved ones.” He tells us, “Today I am grateful and blessed that the case was dismissed … I plan on picking up where I left off with my music and making hits with my upcoming debut album … The first thing I am going to do today is smoke a joint, relax, play video games, and just be with my loved ones.” (TMZ)
Despite being caught on camera, video footage alone was not enough to keep Gunplay behind bars.
Rapper Gunplay is officially off the hook for robbing his accountant at gunpoint … despite damning surveillance video that captured the whole incident … all because the victim refuses to cooperate with authorities, TMZ has learned. The Miami-Dade State Attorney’s Office tells TMZ, “Video alone is not enough to convict an individual of a crime beyond a reasonable doubt.” The office continues, “Although the armed robbery is captured on the victim’s surveillance system, the victim, Turron Woodside, is uncooperative of the prosecution of this defendant Richard Morales [Gunplay].” (TMZ)
A judge freed Gunplay from his house arrest around mid-January.
On Thursday, a judge granted him reprieve from house arrest, he told Rolling Stone in an interview at his Hialeah, Florida, residence last night. The rapper, born Richard Morales, will now face trial on February 25th for the armed robbery charges, for which he faces a potential life sentence. Despite video evidence that appears to show him forcefully taking a gold chain and cell phone during a dispute with his former accountant, Gunplay says he fully expects to beat the case and is already plotting a tour in the spring. “Not guilty,” he told Rolling Stone. “The problem that we had was between me and him but that’s what happens sometimes. We’re just waiting for the last trial date so we can get [the case] kicked out.” (Rolling Stone)
The Maybach Music Group member’s legal woes turned into a hot topic last fall.
MTV News obtained exclusive footage of the rapper turning himself in on October 10 and even checked in on Gunplay via Skype after he posted $150,000 bond. While on house arrest, the Rick Ross protégé was hard at work on his upcoming solo debut Medellin in his home studio. Back in November, he dropped “Drop,” the LP’s first street single. (MTV)
