Atlanta rapper Gucci Mane is reminding fans his acting skills are not ending with a role in the new Spring Breakers action thriller flick by revealing plans to put his chops back onto the big screen.
If things go accordingly, Gucci will have at least three feature films to his name come January 2014.
“I had given thought to acting, but I never really had a good enough opportunity or a character who made sense and paralleled my life a little bit. I feel like I’m one of the poster boys for a bad guy in a movie. I feel like I’m a good person to play a bad guy in a movie. I can say that. The enemy of the bad guy. The worst of the bad guys, and that’s exactly what [Archie] was. That intrigued me,” Gucci said in an interview. “My plan is to drop three of my own films, that I produce, under my own company, Brick Squad Films, this year. It’s going to be a big year for me in film. I guess the filmography of Gucci Mane has just begun.” (Vulture)
Fellow Atlanta rapper 2 Chainz recently spilled his guts on wanting to take Hollywood by storm.
Now he’s thinking about what comes next; his second album is in the works, but 2 Chainz says something in the movie realm is also possible. “It sounds like a world I could be part of,” he acknowledges. “We’ve got a couple of scripts we’re looking at. We’ve got a couple endorsements. We’ve been looking at contracts, (publishing) deals. We have a few things going on in our small little world. “I’m just taking it one day at a time. My team is focused. We’re still trying to make an impact in different things. I don’t want to limit myself, so just be expecting some more from 2 Chainz.” (Contra Costa Times)
Coincidentally, Chainz’s “Luv Dem Strippers” collaborator Nicki Minaj recently detailed her interest in joining the ranks of Hollywood’s elite.
Nicki Minaj has set her sights on the big screen. She told Page Six on Oscar night, “I would love to act, it just has to be the right project, the right movie.” “Nothing stereotypical about a singer,” the rapper and “American Idol” judge said. “I have an agent, and we are looking at a couple of scripts, so we’ll see.” (New York Post)
Last year, Minaj’s Young Money labelmate Drake said he has also waited for the perfect part to land in his hands.
“I’ve been reading scripts for a while,” Drake said in an interview. “I want to do something great. I really want to do something a movie specifically for my culture, the younger people that are still in tune with everything going on. I’m actually writing with my friends right now — they have a production company called By Any Means Necessary, so we’re writing together trying to figure out the right movie. [Ideal role?] Something that’s not a rapper or a basketball player, which is all the scripts that I get. [laughs]” (VH1 News)
