Known for his Southern presence, Gucci described his aim at creating a more universal appeal.

“[Fif’s manager] got me and Mariah together,” Gucci explained in an interview. “I appreciate it. He put me on there as well as her. Both of them are smart for doing that…My boy Will.I.Am put me on [‘Boom Boom Pow’ remix]…He said he’s been liking my stuff. So he got the record to me. It was hard…[Snoop] said he likes my stuff and his kids like my stuff. I was supposed to be on his last album, Ego Trippin’. I did a song and it didn’t make it…We just did three more [songs]…We did one for his album Malice in Wonderland. It’s called ‘Opposites.’ Look forward to that. I did another song for his album called ‘Party Animal,’ and we’re trying to get Fergie on there.” (MTV)

Gucci’s buzz in the South was publicly displayed upon his release from prison last March.

Put together by radio station Hot 107.9, crowds of fans and supporters attended a “Welcome Back” concert for the “So Icey” rapper. “Yo Gucci,” one of the concert hosts said to the rapper prior to his performance. “I mean, you gotta go in the right way, baby. They missed you, you gotta talk to ’em a little bit.” Performing a variety of his hit songs, Gucci was also joined alongside Shawty Lo on-stage throughout his concert. (UNN)

The rapper was ordered to serve a year in prison last September for violating terms of his probation.

Gucci was sent to prison after only serving 25 hours out of his mandated 600 hours of community service and testing positive for drugs at his last probation meeting. After serving his jail sentence, Gucci will still have two and half years of probation and 600 hours of community service to look forward to. (My Fox Atlanta)

Despite being called out by Young Jeezy in the recent diss song “24, 23,” Gucci said he has no intention of sparking another rap beef with the “Snowman.”

“I like attention,” Gucci said. “I must be doing something right if I got people doing songs about me…I called [OJ Da Juiceman] last night…He asked me what I thought about, and I told him I thought it was alright, and he thought it was ok too…Not even that it’s ok, I just got so many other big things going on right now…I don’t think [I’ll respond]. I’ll just give him h*ll by goin’ hard. To be honest with you I can’t wait to do the Birthday Bash [in Atlanta]…I’m too excited. They say me and OJ are the Birthday Bash Boys in Atlanta. So we can’t wait to shut it down. Yeah [the diss was planned]. It ain’t hard to see what’s going on. But to each his own, if that’s what he wants to do. We’re just making hits. Ain’t nobody to diss. Life is good over here in SWATS.” (Miss Info)
