Rockstar unleashed the new five-minute long explosive clip online Tuesday (July 9).

After months of feverish anticipation about “Grand Theft Auto V,” developer Rockstar released the first gameplay trailer ton Tuesday. The first full-fledged console title in the “Grand Theft Auto” universe since 2008, “GTA V” introduces a number of novel gameplay elements to what is gradually becoming a repetitive sub-genre of video games designed to give users unfettered access to wanton criminal activity in sprawling, life-like metropolises. One new feature diehard fans will immediately notice is the ability to alternate between main characters.

It looks very much like the spiritual successor to San Andreas, though this time around you play as three separate protagonists. The game alternates between missions, or heists, and open-world exploration that includes everything from yoga to golf to shopping. During these open-exploration segments, you can bounce back and forth between your three characters, though the video describes this as “voyeurism.” I’m not sure if this means you won’t be able to play each at will, relegated to observing during different parts of the game, or whether Rockstar is simply being glib. Last February, Rockstar Games issued an open apology to fans for pushing GTA V‘s release date through September 20th.

“We know this is about four months later than originally planned and we know that this short delay will come as a disappointment to many of you, but, trust us, it will be worth the extra time. GTAV is a massively ambitious and complex game and it simply needs a little more polish to be of the standard we and, more importantly, you require. To all Grand Theft Auto fans, please accept our apologies for the delay, and our promise that the entire team here is working very hard to make the game all it can be. We are doing all we can to help ensure it will meet if not exceed your expectations come September – we thank you for your support and patience.” (IGN)

West Coast rapper Game is reportedly slated to make a return to the popular franchise in GTA V.

The GTA 5 release date for Xbox 360 and PS3 is fast approaching. Rockstar has confirmed the game’s launch for spring 2013, and the latest rumor is that rapper “The Game” may show up to the next “Grand Theft Auto” party. Will “The Game” play a feature role when the GTA 5 release date arrives. We can’t say anything for sure, but some new fan art released by the Money Gang Facebook page. What role will “The Game” play in GTA 5 when the release date arrives? Well we already know that “The Alchemist” has been brought on to compose a soundtrack that will play during missions. However, it’s possible that “The Game” could be featured in the GTA 5 soundtrack. It’s also possible that either the rapper of all of “Money Gang” may get their own “Grand Theft Auto” radio station.
