[With a limited edition customized Head Crack hat by world renowned street artist Alec Monopoly now available, rapper/clothing designer Gliffics tells SOHH how the one-of-one came into existence.]

Alec Monopoly is world-renowned and considered one of the most sought after street artist’s in the country, and possibly the world.

Before actually connecting with Alec personally, for about two years, I had been reaching out to friends of mine who were connected to him so I could propose a collaboration.

Long story short, it was Alec who ended up finding me. Someone close to him got a hold of my hat through a source I didn’t know. The gentleman invited me over to his home to purchase hats for his crew at “Art Basel” and Alec Monopoly was there working on his paintings for his exhibit in Art Basel.

Once I arrived, he took a break from painting, we introduced ourselves and complimented each other’s work. Alec picked out my “King Of New York” hat for himself, while his partner picked out the rest.

Before going in to meet them, I had wanted to put on my favorite hat, The Pharaoh. I grabbed a fresh one from my trunk, popped the tag and not even 15 minutes past since we were introduced, I saw him get back to work on his Art Basel pieces.

The purchase was made and it was time to go because it was a working environment, not a hang out.

Before I left, he broke away from doing his mural, grabbed my Pharaoh snapback and went back into the room he was working in. A few minutes later he came back out from the room and gave me my hat with a new life to it. His buddy joked with me and said “You’re lucky I didn’t charge you $10,000 for that”. We had a good laugh about it and I went about my way.

Right around the time Art Basel began, if you follow Alec on Instagram, you can see he posted a few images wearing my brand. It’s a good feeling when people that are used to getting things for free are paid to cosign. Free willingly, buy, wear and cosign your work.

The hat is for sale at www.HeadCrack.nyc, but if it’s not in your budget, SOHH readers can pick out any other hat they may want and use code “SOHH” for free shipping.
