According to reports, Zimmerman has gone missing in action since a nasty dispute with his wife and her father earlier this month.

George Zimmerman’s divorce proceedings are on hold, TMZ has learned … because he’s gone Bigfoot on his wife. The divorce can’t move forward until George is served with papers, but his estranged wife Shellie’s lawyer tells us, George is MIA. The lawyer says he can’t find George anywhere and has no idea how to track him down. Sources close to George’s family tell us they’re in contact with him — and he’s safe — but they don’t know exactly where he is. We’re told George plans to lay low for the foreseeable future. As we reported, George caused a media firestorm last week after allegedly punching his estranged wife’s father in the face. He’s been AWOL since. (TMZ)

Recently, an audio clip surfaced featuring Shellie Zimmerman claiming George was threatening her and her father.

In a call to 911, George Zimmerman’s wife can be heard telling police Monday that Zimmerman was sitting in a car outside her home with “his hand on his gun and saying, ‘Step closer.’ ” “Dad, get inside the house! George might start shooting at us, I don’t know,” Shellie Zimmerman can be heard telling her father, according to a 911 recording released as police swarmed the Zimmerman home in Lake Mary, Fla., to investigate. As of a couple of hours after the 911 call, Zimmerman was not under arrest but was in “investigative custody,” which means he can’t leave the scene until police are done investigating, Lake Mary Police Chief Steve Bracknell said in a phone interview with the Los Angeles Times. Bracknell said Zimmerman was being cooperative. (Los Angeles Times)

On the call, the Florida resident also revealed how concerned she was for her family’s safety.

“He’s just threatening all of us with his firearm, and he’s gonna shoot us,” she said on the call. “He punched my dad in the nose, my dad has a mark on his face, I saw his glasses on the floor. He accosted my father, and took my iPad out of my hand, and smashed it and cut it with a pocket knife.” She added, “He just showed up here…. I’m really, really afraid…. I don’t know what he’s capable of, I’m really scared.” (Los Angeles Times)

This all came days after Mrs. Zimmerman filed for divorce from him.

Shellie Zimmerman, 26, filed for divorce last Thursday, her lawyer said. She sought the divorce after she said last week in an interview with ABC News that the trial had strained their marriage of six years. John Donnelly, a family friend who testified in George Zimmerman’s defense at trial, said that Shellie was “devastated” when her husband “just packed up and left” after his acquittal and was gone for a month without telling anyone his whereabouts. Shellie had lost touch with him and had grown increasingly upset, Donnelly said. (Chicago Tribune)

Along with two recent run-ins with police, Zimmerman has remained in the news for avoiding jail time after the fatal shooting of Trayvon Martin in 2012.

After a trial that transfixed the nation, a jury found George Zimmerman, 29, not guilty in the death of Martin, 17. The defense argued that he shot Martin, who did not have a gun, in self-defense after being attacked. The verdict sparked protests and debate on race and guns that stretched all the way to the White House. In the weeks since, George Zimmerman has helped rescue a family after a car wreck and been pulled over for speeding twice. (NBC News)
