Honestly, the fans are what draw me out to South by Southwest every year. I like mingling with a lot of the independent artists and catching their shows.
Sometimes at South By Southwest, they have the surprise performers especially at spots like The FADER and Converse stages. One time I performed there and was a surprise performer and Usher was a surprise performer. It was just dope. You never know who you’re going to see at South By Southwest.
Everybody doesn’t get a chance to perform there and so if you do, you gotta take advantage of it. I like to take advantage of my opportunities and creating other opportunities.
You never know who you’re going to see. For me, there’s always been big people there. I can say it’s getting a little bit more urbanized now. It used to be more of a rocker event but it’s getting a little more urbanized.
It was a little exclusive at first and it’s getting a little more open. A lot of people didn’t even know what the h*ll South By Southwest was and still don’t know. I was telling Drumma Boy a few years ago and he was like, “What is that?” He went with me and now he’s been going every year too.
A lot of people don’t know about it and then when they get up on it, they stick with it. A lot of people in the urban community weren’t aware of it and now they’re starting to come around.
