West Coast rapper Game recently discussed paying homage to the memory of slain teenager Trayvon Martin and the reaction his mother gave him following his publicized tattoo.

According to Game, Tray’s mother reached out and acknowledged his heartfelt gesture.

“Yeah, that one’s on my leg. It’s hard to get up because of these jeans,” Game told host Arsenio Hall. “I got him in a hoody. It’s just the picture that everybody knows. It’s him in a hoody. I actually got a text message from his mom, which is cool. She appreciated the gesture. And, you know, I get tattoos all the time and that was just that whole story. I got a kid and I just thought that was so unfortunate, so I did it.” (“Arsenio”)

Details and footage of Game’s latest tat-ddition landed online back in mid-August.

The trial is over, the verdict was reached, but that doesn’t mean Trayvon Martin’s name, face and story will fade into oblivion – at least not if rapper The Game has his way. As a father of three, The Game was one of the personalities who was very vocal about his support for the justice of Trayvon Martin during the trial and the months leading up to it, but he’s made his dedication to keep Trayvon’s legacy alive a bit more permanent now. The ink-faced rapper recently paid a visit to Roman Tattoos in Hollywood and brought Trayvon’s infamous hooded photo to life with a black and white tattoo on his lower leg. The Game Instagrammed his new ink addition with a split-screen of the photo we have all come to know: Trayvon with a heather gray hoodie slightly draped over his head, with a caption that read: “After 7 hours sleep…. @romantattoos woke me up & my #TrayvonMartin tat is finito… FOLLOW the homie@romantattoos & get on his calendar now !!!!!!!!!#JusticeForTrayvon” (Global Grind)

Over the summer, Brooklyn rap veteran Talib Kweli traveled to Tallahassee in hopes of sparking a new change.

Veteran emcee Talib Kweli joined the ongoing sit-in protests at the Florida Capitol in Tallahassee yesterday (August 8). For over three weeks protesters have occupied the state house demanding Governor Rick Scott call a special session of the state legislature to address concerns about the Stand Your Ground law that gained national attention after the killing of Trayvon Martin in 2012. The #TakeOverFL campaign is being led by the Dream Defenders organization. The group wants the Stand Your Ground law repealed, racial profiling banned, and for state legislators to review zero tolerance policies in schools. Kweli became the latest celebrity to visit the site. Harry Belafonte and Jesse Jackson have also traveled to the Capitol to support the Dream Defenders. (All Hip Hop)

Miami rapper Flo Rida said legislators needed to take another look at Stand Your Ground and make a change last summer.

“I disagree with the verdict and me being from Florida, it’s like I’m contracted into definitely supporting. I’m all about trying to make it a better environment and I’m starting by supplying jobs for anyone and having football leagues to make it a better place. Looking at the case, overall, my biggest thing is if the police tell you, ‘Eh, back off’ and you proceed, I think that’s enough to give you some time. So I definitely disagree with that verdict. [Abolish Stand Your Ground?] They need to come up with something better.” (“The Breakfast Club”)
