Earlier this month, rap veteran Nas talked about the importance of educating youth face-to-face amid the widespread protests.

“That’s just embarrassing. I’m one of the guys that’s out there saying, ‘Listen. It has to stop.’ It’s important that every time I see a black child I look him or her in the eyes and say, ‘This is your world. You’re a king or a queen.’ Everything else was telling them they were slaves. It’s important for them to know the history of black children doesn’t start in this great country.” (TIME)

Nas publicly showed his support and involvement last week.

Rap star Kendrick Lamar recently connected his powerful self-loving “i” song to the need for change in the United States.

“It’s something that I’ve been around since the beginning of time. I remember coming up in the city of Compton and [seeing] these same types of ordeals. So when I make a record like “i”, this is not just about me. It’s about what’s going on in real life, actual [facts].” (MTV)

    • Exactly my point. We cry when a white cops kill black people but we don’t care about the black on black crime which happens everyday. Them niggaz didn’t march for that young black girl who got killed in a driveby shooting while sitting on her daddy’s lap. No, because blacks did that. But hey that’s none of my business. (Kermit sippin tea)

      • Ugggghhh Negros are STILL using this old ass argument?! Let me break it down again for you.

When Black people kill each other we get charged and arrested for it and have to go through the criminal justice system to defend our innocence or prove our innocence. Hence the lack of protest.

When white cops kill Black people, they don’t even get indicted, let alone arrested. The perception (and reality) is that cops escape punishment or penalty when they kill unarmed Black men and women. Hence the reason for protests.

        • Bro wake up. The good thing about police brutality is that it doesn’t discriminate. It happens to all races. Plenty of white cops got away with killing innocent white people so your statement doesn’t make sense. I understand you only focus on America but I have news for you. Police all over the world so you the math. And it’s a good thing that we get arrested and charged for killing our own people otherwise the crime rate among us would be way more higher.

          • YES IT DOES DISCRIMINATE. Just because whites are ALSO victims of police brutality, that doesn’t mean Blacks are not profiled more, targeted, more, and dealt with more aggressively on much more a frequent basis. Stats show this.

I’m not saying we shouldnt be arrested for killing our own, I’m saying there’s less outrage because the system works to punish us when we do it, yet when police do it and they are wrong, the system forgets how to prosecute criminals in blue uniforms.

          • Get real! The truth is that the majority of discrimination that goes on in this country has nothing to do with race and everything to do with wealth. If you act like a thug, dress like a thug, and speak like a thug you will be treated like one and it doesn’t matter what “color” you are. Let’s be real about something else, we all have prejudice. Stats don’t show that they’re profiled more, targeted more, and death with on a much more frequent basis because they’re black. If you were being honest and using logic you would admit that it makes sense that a culture that stresses thug life, refers to the people within by a derogatory name, glamorizes murder and guns etc. has more run ins with the police. On Christmas a young man points a weapon at an officer and gets shot and killed and people are out protesting? Seriously?

          • I’ve encountered your perspective hundreds maybe thousands of times. You are uncomfortable talking about and dealing with race. The whole “It’s not race it’s class” argument comes from those scared to confront this country’s racist past AND present.

Act like a racist bigot, you’ll be treated like one st. nicholas.

          • LOL oh my! So essentially because I don’t buy into your BS you immediately call me a racist bigot? No I went through and read your comments on other articles and your whole black power divide and conquer BS is no different than any other racism I’ve ever seen. I’ve encountered your perspective hundreds and maybe thousands of times and it’s the same crap over and over. You’re uncomfortable dealing with the fact that it might not be about race at all and that it might be about the culture that so many youth in this country, white and black, have. I in no way stated that there aren’t racist people I simply stated that the problem isn’t as narrow as you would like it to be.

          • The problem with the things you’re saying is that they’re not true and because you clearly are intelligent and educated you’re able to say them in a way that makes them believable to other less educated/intelligent people. What you’re doing is no different than any other person who’s intent is to divide and conquer. It’s not about “black power” or “white power”. It’s not about color at all. It’s about living it a country where we respect each other based on actions and actions alone. It’s about accountability and responsibility. Think about your response when someone actually brought up real issues. You immediately call me a racist bigot. WEAK. But not only is that weak it’s also dangerous, reckless and quite frankly wrong. Stop stalking you? You’re all over pretending to be some great authority, holding yourself up to be some equality crusader while spreading hate and bigotry. And what the hell is a guest attorney? If you’ve been through the 1, 2, and 3L grind than you’re not a guest anything. Man up and stop spreading the hate. Good day…

          • It is about race. Just because it makes you uncomfortable, it doesn’t stop being about race. Here are some things for you to look into. Some homework if you will.

            Wells Fargo racial discrimination suit
Bank Of America racial discrimination suit
Crack vs powder cocaine racial disparities in sentencing (Fair Sentencing Act)
            Race At Work – NYC.GOV
            Racial profiling by police
            housing discrimination
job discrimination (see Race at Work above)
            Death Penalty racial disparities
            Redlining

          • Nice red herring genius. We’re talking about police brutality and whether or not its about race and you try and throw some bullshi$t out there that has nothing to do with it. There are plenty of examples of racism directed towards white people but what does that have to do with the post? I don’t need homework. I’m not a “guest attorney”. I’ve earned my stripes LOL. Go ahead and hold on tight to that crutch you’re definitely going to need it.

          • LOL too funny! You’re too much of a coward to stand behind your comments. You’ve proven what a racist coward you are.

          • You’re too ignorant for me to waste my time with. Either that or too cowardice to be honest about race so if you can’t even admit race is an issue in modern day America, then the conversation won’t go anywhere. Good day.

          • There is a huge race issue and from what I’ve seen in these comments and elsewhere it’s directed at “white” people. You have a selective train of thought and only see things in black and white and then accuse everyone else of being racist. GET OVER IT!

          • Notice how you still haven’t responded to what I posted above? Pathetic.

          • PS Stop stalking me and reading my comments. Do something more productive with your time.

          • Lies, parts of it is wealth but the majority deals with the whiteman being afraid of losing his strong hold on everything, why you think the rules are in his favor? Even the blacks that they do recruit, they do there best to seperate them from their people, it’s been like that for years go and study booker t Washington. Now I’m not saying always go out and scream fuck all police or white people because that would be foolish, but always be aware how shit is set up and don’t ever be shocked when that side turns on you when you get ahead it’s not many john brown’s out there yell

          • Your hate towards the “whiteman” is evident in your post. What a sad life you must live…

          • Thank you. You get it. He doesnt.

If you wouldn’t mind can you elaborate on the Booker T. Washington thing? I think I have an idea on where you’re going with it.

        • So basically what you’re saying is that the goal is not to eradicate violence and abuse and ignorance by people, but just to increase prosecution of those that commit it and get caught? C’mon kid…..

          • I’m sorry but you seem to be a bit slow.
Nowhere were we discussing goals in this conversation and no where in my post do I infer or imply that violence prevention and deterrence is not on the agenda.

We were talking about WHY Black people get outraged in some cases and why they don’t express the same level of outrage in other cases. That’s not a discussion of goals it’s discussing why the community responds or reacts to injustice the way it does. Try to keep up. (If you dont want the condescending tone by the way I suggest you approach me on here more respectfully).

          • I would be happy to show you numerous articles about unarmed white men being killed by the police and no outrage, no protests, no…Where are you a guest attorney at? What is a guest attorney? Is that like a guest author? Cracking me up over here.

          • It’s about proportion and percentage. A greater percentage of Blacks will be killed by police than whites. Blacks are more likely to confront police violence than whites are. Just because whites are also victims that doesnt mean racial profiling doesnt exist. That doesnt mean police arent quicker to use force against Black people. If you acknowledge this then it is about race. You are looking to argue rather than debate in a healthy fashion.

          • It’s about excuses instead of accountability. You refuse to acknowledge the socioeconomic factors, upbringing and culture. I love your hypocrisy though. Aren’t you the pot calling the kettle black? (argue vs. debate). To say racial profiling doesn’t exist is too broad of a statement just like saying that it does exist and blaming it for the fact that stop and frisk happens to thugs walking around with their pants below their ass and it’s because they’re black is ridiculous.

          • “Thugs hanging with pants below their ass”. Yep. You’re a bigot.
The mafia were the biggest thugs and criminals in America engaged in crimes that included rape, murder, extortion, racketeering, bribery, assault, theft, robbery, intimidation, the distribution of illegal substances and they wore suits and ties. Just like some of our criminal politicians and wall street bankers. Get a clue nick.

          • Do you see what the problem with what you’re saying is? “The mafia WERE”… It’s past tense, as in they aren’t anymore. Do you know where sagging originated? If you’re hanging out on a street corner late at night dressed like a hippy, dressed like a thug, dressed like whatever they’re going to stop and frisk you. By the way you assuming that only “black” people walk around with their pants below their ass makes you the bigot not me. I know plenty of white people who dress that way. I know plenty of “black” people who are dress like a hippy, I know plenty of people of all ethnicity that are businessman and women You see things in black and white you’re the bigot. You’re angry because I see you trying to use a crutch and want people to be treated special because of the color of their skin and I say thats racist. And again what the heck is a guest attorney? You hide behind some fake name as a “guest attorney” spouting racist BS about how much you clearly despise the “whiteman”. I worked my ass off to get through undergrad, law school, and life. I wasn’t given a scholarship based on the color of my skin. I wasn’t given good grades based on the color of my skin. I don’t have to hide behind some fake ass screen name….

          • LOL You dont think the mafia is still in existence?!?!!! BWAHAHAHA
Another hw assignment for ya nick! lol

As for the rest of your post I stopped after I saw the racist trigger words. Ya know, “dressed like a thug”, “sagging”. You sir, are extremely ignorant. Peace.

          • LOL you think they’re the BIGGEST thugs and criminals still? I’m not sure if you’re capable of reading what you wrote but you wrote it in the past tense as well. You may want to do a little homework because the police, FBI, and every other possible police power in existence harass the mafia. Their phones are tapped their families are in jail… Must be because they’re Italian and not because they’re committing crimes right? Or are they the wrong color for that privilege? You do a good job of selectively replying to my posts. I went back and read and you haven’t responded to anything you just keep spewing the same racist bullshit hiding behind that fake screen name as a “guest attorney”. Your go to is the word “ignorant” you sir may want to use a thesaurus.

          • I call it how I see it. You’re just as ignorant as the last time we talked so the word still applies.

          • Bruh you can’t argue with this guy. He’s not trying to hear you. He can’t understand. It’s not productive arguing with a piece of wood.

          • White hate is real with you. I think you feel like your screen name gives you credibility but to me it just makes you fake.

          • Your homework is to look up the word “racist”, “prejudice”, and “ignorant” because you’re not using them correctly and it kind of makes you look silly. Thanks “Guest”

          • I looked up ignorant and Nicholas James Lombardi came up. Same thing happened when I looked up the other two. PeACE.

    • First of all this protest was about police brutality not gang violence the LAPD been on some grimey shit killing people and doing foul shit I bet you don’t live out here in Cali to kno. WhatS going on

      • I don’t have to live in Cali to know anyone protesting violence should lead by example. If a gang member kills a loved one is that a consolation of some sort? No. Did you ever stop to think that the gang culture and violence associated with it plays a part in the fear some officers have when patrolling the black community? I was going easy on Game because I want to give him the benefit of doubt as being sincere albeit confused but this comes across as a cheap publicity stunt to stay relevant. How is that helping? Rappers are like chameleons. They transition into anything hot at the moment. This guy rode the Blood bandwagon from one shitty deal to another. Now he’s an activist. Isn’t everyone who serves no purpose? It’s the easier thing to become when you run out of options. He went from Dre to 50 to Cash Money to the Kardashians and now he’s Malcolm X. Will that ni99a just get a job and go away?

        • Umm the victims of the LAPD brutality were not gang members so they didnt have to feel threatned some of these pigs go to far like the chp officer that beat up the black lady on the Fwy he went to far the cops here in Cali are aggressive they be beating up innocent people they shot a mentally ill man they beat up a mentally man and I said you don’t live out here so you really didn’t know what’s going on but I’m telling you and we had enough of LAPD’s bullshit lately LAPD been on a warpath so yeah we had enough!!!!

          • I don’t dispute that but we need to do just as much to reduce self inflicted violence as police brutality. Too much focus on police so other scum bags can can a free pass. Black Lives Matter to everyone not just police.

          • I say as long as we are doing something. Its easy to criticize, but at least we are doing something. ex: I hate that rappers use the word nigga in their raps, because it gives other ethnicities feel they can call us and themselves nigga. But if they (rappers) are doing something proactive, I’m with it.

          • To Vitamin Water to Starz to SMS to boxing and then some. My point is Game is trying anything to keep himself relevant because NOTHING else is working. I’m definitely no fan of 50 and his antics but you chose to compare them not me.

          • To talking about Floyd Mayweather, to TI, to Diddy, to Nelly. He does the same thing to stay relevant lol

        • “Did you ever stop to think that the gang culture and violence associated with it plays a part in the fear some officers have when patrolling the black community?.. So that’s an excuse to start wacking unarmed people because they’re scared? They’re hardly scared.

  1. I respect the move. He could be promoting negativity instead so I respect this. I do agree he should no longer glorify intracommunal violence in his music, but I support this message.

    • I don’t support this for 3 reasons.
      1. You can’t do this today and tomorrow you’ll do the opposite.
      2. Police brutality happens everyday and everywere. I just red a story about a 14 year old kid who got picked up the police the police drove him up a hill and shot him in the head for no reason. Happened in Brazil. They didn’t march for that dude.
      3. Most of these people have their own agenda’s so I can’t tell who is really sincere about this.

If you wanna protest against police brutality ok. But do that shit everyday for the rest of your life cause like I said earlier. Police brutality happens everyday.

        • True but I never vote and I never protest. I respect the people who do tho so I just leave it at that.

          • I hear what you’re saying my dude but you’re just as guilty given your reasoning. You say game should march everyday and his music should align with this decision, we’ll you don’t vote and that makes you apart of the problem, not the solution. Understand my statement, you not voting forclocal government and positions, you help keep the same foul individuals in office, on the bench, D.A., Attorney General etc. You are not helping, you’re hurting yourself and those like you. Indictments are not being made nationwide because we have foul people in position of power and you’re helping keep them there by not voting. Before you knock others, look at yourself. Peace my brother.

      • What is the opposite of protesting or marching though? Staying silent you mean? I dont expect Game to lead the cause alone. And just because police brutality happens everyday it doesnt mean you march for each and every individual. That would be silly. You protest the system. You protest police brutality as a whole. It would be non sensical to think Game should be expected to hold a rally or march for every victim of police violence in every country in the world. Also, regarding Brazil, they citizens and celebrities there should lead the protests to what happens there and we can join them in solidarity. You cant put that on Game.

I agree we don’t know who’s really sincere, but I think you can tell by which ones are bandwagon jumping and which ones have consistently tackled this issue or at least have raised the issue before it became popular to do so. Game actually tried to do something back in 2007 I believe to bring attention to police brutality centered around the Sean Bell shooting. He had a hard time getting support because rappers were scared. It wasnt safe to do it yet. It wasnt popular yet so I commend him for trying before it became a bandwagon issue.

  2. Says the clown that chin check rival gang members and uploads it for all the world to see…FOH

  3. A rapper like the gang can’t “lead” this type of protesting. Not with the type of music he makes, promotes and lifestyle he claims to live & represent. I can understand him participating, but leading it? Helll naw. He doesn’t have the credibility to “lead” something like this. Maybe a Chuck D, Mos Def, Talib Kweli, Lupe Fiasco, Immortal Technique, Big Mike, KAM?-remember him?-but no Lil Weezies, Games, Birdmen, Gucci Men, Chief Keefes…nope.

      • The title says, “Game leads the charge…”, then shows a pic with him in the front. I’m sure he wasn’t leading sh!t bc nobody would respect that. So its a stupid and misleading headline.

  4. Protesting is fine but blocking the streets is stupid. Hope nobody in the street “Peacefully” has a family member in need of emergency service while the ambulance is stuck in traffic. block the police commissioners street. block the judge’s street. block a street that matters. blocking city streets do nothing but slow emergency vehicles in traffic.

  5. The mentality of some blacks… y’all speak down on these individuals for being apart of something positive for our community and people? Do we have issues and problems within our community? Yes! Do others? Yes! Is that besides the point at hand, police brutality? Yes! I dislike hypocrites, no matter how much good a person does their past will always be judged smh. Some of y’all comments show the ignorance within, until one of you or your people are effected personally, only then will you see the big picture. I bet y’all tell younger individuals not to smoke weed or drink but you do it. Catch my drift. You’re no different then these rappers.

      • If the shoe fits, wear it. Apparently it fits your size. Enjoy your new sneaks my dude.

        • So let me get this right I’m suppose to follow some Kafir who’s out there stomping out rival gang members and uploading the shyt on Worldstar…LMAO!

          • Naw my dude, you never follow a man, you lead the message and bring light to the situation at hand. Remember, leaders of the church, mosque, temple etc. Are only human, with flaws and mistakes in their daily living but that shouldn’t diminish the message. Rock with what you feel, I spoke my peace. Peace my dude.

    • How can you stand up for issues in your community when you are the issue in your community? He promotes Gang violence, drugs, and sex.

      • So using your logic, no rapper can stand-up for issues in their community correct? If so, give me a rapper, past or present. I’m curious

        • They can stand for an issue that don’t promote through their music. How can you promote violence in your music and beat niggas up and camera and then have a promote the peace rally?? I’m all for coming together but I would prefer for other black entertainers to come forward instead of rappers.

          • Can rappers stand-up for these issues in your opinion, yes or no? Simple question. If so, which ones in your eyes.

          • No I don’t want them standing up for this issue because it contradicts the basis of their musical content. If a rapper wants to stand up for breast cancer, world hunger, spousal abuse etc. then I’m with that. I understand that rappers are trying to do a good deed but it’s the right message from the wrong person. I want to see more black athletes and actors come forward.

          • So if you have black athletes and entertainers stand-up for these issues but have been known to abuse their spouse or mate, you don’t want those individuals correct? You’re asking for a lot of selective situations, instead of appreciating the individuals standing up for what’s right. My brother, your position on this topic is flawed and has many holes in your reasoning. You want this group standup for these issues, then you want this group for the other issues smh… C’Mon Son, look at what you’re saying.

          • How is it flawed? Practice what you preach. How you going to protest against violence and promote violence at the same time? Where is the logic in that. Is Game a role model for kids now? I respect him as a rapper but I wouldn’t want my kid to aspire to be like him. No one is going to take rappers serious because they will always revert back to what I’m saying “They promote violence”. We need black politicians and other black entertainers to step up to the plate.

          • How is it flawed? Politicians need to bring social awareness to these issues, the same politicians that promote and are in favor of wars? Ok… Actors need to promote social awareness to these issues, the same ones making movies depicting killing and murdering individuals? Ok… If we took your position on these topics, no-one could promote social awareness. Who do you think our legit, I said LEGIT last black leader was? I’m curious to know.

          • To say you don’t want rappers on the whole to stand up for issues because “it contradicts the basis of their musical content” shows that you are generalizing all rappers, placing them all under the umbrella of promoting intracommunal violence. Q-Tip, Common, Talib Kweli, Mos Def, Jeru the Damaja, KRS-One, Rakim, Andre 3000, Wu-Tang, Public Enemy, Dead Prez, Lauryn Hill, J. Cole, Killer Mike, Lupe Fiasco don’t brag about or glorify violence. Can they not lead a protest or join the movement?

          • You’re crazy if you think that none of these rappers rapped about guns or violence. For example J.cole “Carry .45’s like change for a $20”. Your taking this argument way left field

          • Does he brag and glorify? Does he do it to the point where he should be excluded from helping? Does he make that his image or try to sell that to fans and kids? That he’s about that? How often do u get that from him?

  6. I like this because he’s actually out there marching with everybody as a Blackman. At least he’s not at home doing nothing at all, like some other rappers too scared to speak out! If we saw more parents, entertainers, and athletes marching, protesting, and puttin they shit down on them, I sure we’d
    get our voices heard!

  7. All black people need to stick together. Period. Don’t matter where you’re from. People fear that.

  8. Is that a nose ring on game? Please don’t give me that crap about Tupac having a nose ring too. I know none of you defended Baby kissing Wayne either since they said it’s mafia type of sh!t lol.

  9. In reality police presence won’t be necessary if we weren’t coons in our neighborhood

  10. im not gon read all these comments but u dumb deaf and blind mafukrs need to get off the net and read a fukn book for real..ask the black professor at Harvard what he was doin when the white cop arrested him on his porch for goin thru his own front door,,it became a national story..just one example of the police bullshi* that’s got nothing to do w/acting dressing or looking like a “thug”..shi* got all the way to Obama whose solution was to sit down w/the black professor and rascist cop and have few fu*king beers and talk it out,,so miss me w/the “black folks bring it on themselves bullshi*,,85% dumb asses

  11. “The truth is that the majority of discrimination that goes on in this country has nothing to do with race and everything to do with wealth”@Nicholas james Lombardi is one of the stupidest things ive ever heard in my life..go to the library and beat your self up w/some books..or just study some dept of justice records about same crime/much more time if your black sentencing dumbass
