G.O.O.D. Music Star Pops The Bubble: “I’m Infusing What I Do In Hip-Hop & Bringing Pop Elements To It”

Months after Young Money’s Nicki Minaj caught backlash for dropping pop-sounding records, G.O.O.D. Music’s Hit-Boy is giving haters the cold shoulder and taking a chance with pop queen Britney Spears.

According to HB, he will showcase a fusion of rap-meets-pop on Spears’ upcoming solo album.

“I’m bringing my world to her world, so I’m infusing what I do in hip-hop and bringing pop elements to it. So it’s just going to be a global sound,” he told MTV News on the set of the “Scream & Shout” remix clip. “We’ve just been throwing ideas back and forth so far. So I can’t really put a number on it or anything but it’s coming together.” And despite Spears’ legend status, Hit-Boy says she doesn’t act like a diva at all. “I mean she’s actually just really nice and cool,” he revealed. “It’s nothing different than working with everyone else, just a really cool person.” (MTV)

Back in 2011, Atlanta’s Gucci Mane raised eyebrows after revealing plans to hook up with Spears, although nothing ever materialized.

Gucci confirms to RumorFix that he’ll be spitting a few bars on Britney’s new tune, “Hit”. The unlikely duo will meet next week in an Atlanta studio at Mizay Entertainment to record the track. The hip-hop artist tells RumorFix that Britney has been a fan of his music for years, that’s why he chose to do the song with her. “Britney’s so icy,” Gucci tells RumorFix exclusively, “I’m going to make her go Brrr.” Gucci tells RumorFix he chose to work with Britney because she’s “raw and exciting. She’s crazy. We like to get down like that.” (RumorFix)

Also in 2011, Young Money’s Nicki Minaj described her experience on Britney’s Femme Fatal nationwide tour.

“Well, initially, what I thought was I hope this audience will appreciate what I do. What I first dealt with was a bit of the unknown. Is this something that Britney’s crowd will even enjoy? But it all went away the first night. I stood in the transporter, that big prop that we have on the stage, and I could not believe the crowd reaction before they even saw me. It was very emotional for me. I was so shocked. I thought, OK, on the [Lil] Wayne tour, this is my audience, everyone that knows Wayne, they knowNicki Minaj. When I heard those screams, it was one of the best feelings in the world. It changed overnight. I’m pleasantly surprised with the people coming out on this show; they generally are coming out not to critique, but to have fun. The hip-hop community tends to be more critical. On this stage, I felt a little bit more free.” (Los Angeles Times)

Last year, Minaj prided herself in being able to make both pop and urban hits.

“I would hope that people know at this point that I’m smart enough to know what I’m doing all the time. But I guess they still kind of waiver. I always intended on putting out something urban after ‘Starships,’ because I knew ‘Starships’ was a monster,” she explained. “Maybe it would be a problem if I couldn’t deliver records like ‘Roman Reloaded,’ but I can. I write my own lyrics. Once again, I write my own lyrics. So it’s never a problem. Whatever I feel, I can write, I can create it. So I’m good. I think people sometimes get blown away by the magnitude of the pop stuff, because the pop stuff, it reaches everywhere and then I feel like my hip-hop fans or hip-hop culture starts getting a little bit afraid that I’m going to leave. But this is who I am. I’m not going to change – I’m just adding on to my brand. And if you don’t understand that, then it’s probably why you don’t travel and you don’t see the world and I probably can’t even have a conversation with you anymore.” (Hot 97)
