G.O.O.D Music rapper Cyhi the Prynce recently shared his thoughts on boss Kanye West's new Yeezus solo album and silenced critics' issues with him going with a religious title.
According to Cyhi, there is much more to the new album’s title than most people think.
“A lot of people don’t know Yeezus if you break it down is: ‘Ye-Is-us,” Cyhi told MTV news via a Skype interview on Tuesday. Cyhi knows that Kanye won’t do a ton of interviews surrounding the new LP, so he decided to deliver the message to the people. “I’ll break it down to you because I don’t care. ‘Ye will let you sit there and beat yourself up about it,” he told us. “He ain’t gonna do no interviews. He gonna be like, ‘Yeah it’s Yeezus and that’s what it’s called and y’all gotta deal with it.'” (MTV)
The rapper also detailed what the in-studio experience was like as Yeezus came together.
Prynce was in the studio for much of the recording of Yeezus. In fact, he receives writing credit on nine of the 10 tracks. (“Send It Up” is the only track where he doesn’t receive a credit.) Cyhi says it isn’t a ghostwriting situation where he is penning rhymes for Kanye, but rather writing by committee. “I’m just in there with him, keeping him up, keeping the environment in the room. That’s like one of my jobs I feel like, because they ask me to do it,” he said. “We wrote a booklet of different things that could be put in here. The bible just wasn’t wrote by Jesus. Inspirations came from everywhere that put this whole thing together.” (MTV)
Prior to its release, music icon Rick Rubin talked about Ye’s last-minute request for him to get involved.
“Kanye came over to play me what I assumed was going to be the finished album at three weeks before the last possible delivery date. We ended up listening to three hours of partially finished pieces. The raw material was very strong but hadn’t yet come into focus. Many of the vocals hadn’t been recorded yet, and many of those still didn’t have lyrics. From what he played me, it sounded like several months more work had to be done. I joined the project because after discussing what he had played for me, he asked if I would be open to taking all of the raw material on and help him finish it.” (Wall Street Journal)
The new album is now expected to sell up to 385,000 copies in its opening week.
