Newly signed Bad Boy Records' artist French Montana has offered his take on his new joint "Stay Schemin'" effort with Rick Ross and Drake, admitting fans should know who Drizzy is taking aim at.
While not name-dropping perceived subliminal victim Common, French said Drake has maintained his silence on the record’s true target.
“Shout-out to Drake, shotu-out to Rozay,” Frenchie said in an interview. “We were in Ross’ crib when we recorded it. Drake came in and he heard it and jumped on it. It was Christmas, they called me — I came down to Miami and we shot the video. … We got two on there, the ‘Stay Schemin’ and ‘Fresh Off the Boat.’ ‘Fresh Off the Boat’ is going to be my next single, but I just told him to throw it on there, too,, keep the Internet going crazy. We just drop singles over here, you know? It’s gonna come as it comes. … Man, I can’t even tell you. I just got off the phone with Drake, man, he didn’t even want to tell me. You know what I’m saying? They can read between the lines.” (Los Angeles Leakers)
Although Drizzy has stayed mum on the topic, websites have speculated he is taking a shot toward rap veteran Common.
Rick Ross pulls out the Maybach and cruises through his Miami hometown at night in the video for “Stay Schemin’,” a cut off his new mixtape Rich Forever. Drizzy comes along for the ride, spitting a fiery verse that will raise eyebrows. “It bothers me when the gods get to acting like the broads/ Guess every team doesn’t come complete with ni**as like ours,” he raps in the wake of his beef with Common. In addition, Bad Boy’s newest signee French Montana raises his profile with an appearance on The Beat Bully production. (Rap-Up)
In December, the Canadian-bred rapper reportedly took aim at Common and taunted his record-selling ability.
Since Drake is “not a p*ssy” he figured he’d go ahead and respond, kinda. Just in case you can’t read it, Drake subtweeted Common by saying “Platinum. Now THAT’s Sweet!” Of course he’s referring the song name and bragging on how many records he’s sold in comparison to Common. Fair right? But then for some reason, Drake elected to take down the tweet. But that didn’t stop the rest of twitter from weighing in on this supposed “beef” between two of the most non-threatening rappers the world has ever seen. (Loop 21)
A week prior, Common confirmed speculation suggesting his “Sweet” record is targeted toward artists like Drake.
“Hey, he opened his mouth and said some things. So if he wants it, that’s what he wants, all that subliminal, you can do that too. But you might want to say that now,” he said. “I mean, the verse is about me, but when you hear some stuff on the chorus, it’s like you can’t help but think about dude, and that’s what he felt. So at the end of the day, he fit in that category. He already embraced it, so wear it.” (“Sway in the Morning”)
