New York rapper French Montana has become the latest artist to ink a management deal with Waka Flocka Flame's mother, Debra Antney, and Mizay Entertainment.
Montana has announced the management decision and why Antney was his top candidate.
“As far as management, she got it down pat,” French told XXLMag.com. “She got everything that I need, and I got everything that she need–as far as the East Coast market, the Tri-State. Deb’s never had nobody from the East Coast, besides Nicki [Minaj].” The Bronx-bred spitter, who appeared as a featured guest on Waka Flocka’s album, said he first met Antney, who is Flockaveli’s mom, at a nightclub in New York a few months back. He had high praises for her work. “That woman is like a label by herself,” he said. “She just work. Being the person that I am, that I work just as hard as her, it’ll make it a whole lot easier.” (XXL Mag)
Last week, Gucci Mane re-hired Antney to be his manager after firing her in May.
2010 has been a tumultuous year for Atlanta rapper Gucci Mane. On May 4, while in prison for violating his probation, Gucci fired his manager, Debra Antney, amidst rumors that she and his booking agent, who he also fired, were taking advance deposits for headlining shows that they knew he would be unable to attend. Gucci is now back in the news for rehiring Debra Antney. (The Boom Box)
After parting ways with Antney earlier this year, Waka said the distance hurt his relationship with Gucci.
“Yeah, [it affected my relationship with Gucci] all the way. All the way. I ain’t got beef or anything but it has changed. We don’t talkanymore. Nicki is still my homey, though. I got her number and can call her whenever. My momma ain’t got no problems with her or anything either. Let’s make that clear.” (VIBE)
Earlier this year, Young Money superstar Nicki Minaj fired Antney as her manager.
“I received a letter, which was (a) suspension,” says Antney. “The next letter that came in was a cease and desist in doing all business with Nicki Minaj from Nicki’s attorney. I love Nicki. I wish her the most success. It’s not about the music, she’s like one of my children… I wish her no harm, only much success.” (Hip Hop Pop Crunch)
