Less than two weeks after going home with a Grammy award, Odd Future's Frank Ocean once again won big by picking up an elusive trophy at the BRIT Awards Wednesday (February 20).
Ocean along with a few notable high-profile stars made sure to avoid leaving the annual ceremony empty-handed.
Frank Ocean, Adele, and Emeli Sandé won big at this year’s BRIT Awards, held today (February 20) at London’s O2 Arena. Ocean snagged the trophy for International Male Solo Artist, Adele nabbed the British Single statue for her Oscar-nominated “Skyfall” theme, and Sandé took home two awards: British Female Solo Artist and the night’s top honor, the MasterCard British Album of the Year for her debut album, Our Version of Events. During his acceptance speech, Frank acknowledged his long journey to success.
“Before this year, I didn’t get many trophies in my life,” said Ocean as he accepted his award. “I’m definitely a long way from working fast food in New Orleans.” (Rolling Stone)
Earlier this month, Ocean snagged a Grammy award for his channel ORANGE album.
After his performance, Grammy voters went with Team Frank in the urban contemporary album battle. Frank Ocean won the Grammy for his “Channel Orange,” but made no reference to his spat with fellow nominee Chris Brown. He kept his thank yous short — his mother, Def Jam and Odd Future Records. (E! Rather than slow down and enjoy the accolades, Ocean revealed how much work he has put into the album’s follow-up yesterday (February 19).
“I’m 10, 11 songs into this next thing,” Ocean told BBC Radio 1’s Zane Lowe during his visit to the U.K. “It’s another cohesive thing, bordering on a conceptrecord again.” The album will pick up where 2012’s channel ORANGE left off. “At the end of channel ORANGE, there’s ‘Golden Girl’ and it’s this beach scene, and I kind of want to extend that feel into the next record all together, kinda make it that theme.” When he returns from the U.K., he will continue his recording sessions on the island of Bora Bora. “I’m gonna take it all to the beach and work for a few weeks,” he said. “We’re gonna do that and see how it turns out.” (Rap-Up)
