Despite the controversy Ocean appeared to spark, new reports claim his now-infamous “F*CK OFF” check was not really issued to Chipotle.

TMZ now reports that Chipotle received the money and the case has been settled. But a rep says that the check did not arrive in its publicized form. Apparently, Ocean did not actually mail Chipotle the “F*CK OFF” check. (I’d argue that the message was nonetheless pretty clear.) (Pitchfork)

Ocean recently posted a photo of his $212,500 payment to Chipotle to Tumblr.

Chipotle sued Ocean for the $212,500 it paid him as well as additional damages to be determined at trial. After the suit went public, Ocean reimbursed Chipotle for the original $212,500. On Monday, he posted a photo of the cashier’s check on his Tumblr page with a memo that read “F*ck Off.” He also alluded to the legal battle by posting a link to the word “defamation” on Wikipedia. A few days prior, Ocean hinted at the legal situation via his Tumblr page.

Ocean has yet to officially release a statement about the lawsuit, but possibly referenced the ordeal with a Tumblr post that simply links to the Wikipedia page for “defamation.” (XXL Mag)

Details of the hefty situation started to scatter across the Internet heading into the weekend.

Frank Ocean wanted to have his burrito and eat it too — metaphorically speaking — because Chipotle Mexican Grill just sued the singer for backing out of an ad … for what seems like the most ridiculous reason. According to the suit, filed today in L.A. County … Chipotle signed Frank to a $425,000 deal to sing a remake of “Pure Imagination” for a new animated ad. But Chipotle claims Frank never recorded the track because when they showed him the final cut … Frank was pissed the company’s logo appeared at the end of the spot. To reiterate … he was mad Chipotle’s logo was in a Chipotle advertisement. (TMZ)
