[With his new “Ballads of a Massacre” album available now, Fong Sai U weighs in on the battle between Starz’s “Power” and Fox’s “Empire” hit series.]
“Power!” It’s f*cking “Power” all day! Let me tell you something, “Empire,” I salute them but it’s kind of watered down. “Power” gives you that raw. It gives you that uncut.
To be truthful, I’m just catching up on the season. I haven’t even started f*cking with this season yet. I’m finishing up the last season. I gotta run with “Power” over “Empire.” Comparing those two is like Toys R Us.
It’s raw. For “Empire,” it’s good for family, it’s sugarcoated down, everybody is singing and dancing. I really think it’s a minstrel show if you ask me. I don’t really like that [part of it].
It’s too much shucking and jiving. What do the suburban white people look at when they see us shucking and jiving every f*cking minute and singing? And it’s on Fox. Fox makes a f*cking hour go by and we’re singing again walking up the stairs rapping.
“Empire” compared to “Power,” come on man. That’s the sh*t.
yup power all day baby
