A day after Public Enemy’s Flavor Flav made headlines for one of his fast food restaurants being hit with an eviction notice, a new twist in the situation has emerged.
According to reports, the landlords should be heavily at fault for exposing employees to life-threatning conditions.
The people behind Flavor Flav’s Michigan chicken joint claim their landlords DON’T DESERVE RENT … because the guys who own the building exposed them to POISON GAS!!! We broke the story … Flavor Flav’s Chicken & Ribs was hit with eviction papers last month because the landlords claim the restaurant hasn’t paid a penny in rent since the place opened back in December. But Flav’s people claim they have a damn good reason to stiff the landlords — the place had a faulty heater that was leaking carbon monoxide into the restaurant … endangering everyone inside the building. If things go the way of Team Flav, a pricey $25,000 ruling could be at stake.
Flav’s partners filed a lawsuit against the landlord … claiming they had a duty to fix the problem, but failed to do so … causing FFC&R to temporarily close its doors. The chicken joint has since re-opened … and we’re guessing the problem has been remedied because no one has since died (… to the best of our knowledge). A lawyer for Flav’s biz partners tells TMZ, the rent on the property IS currently being paid … but into a court escrow account, where it will stay until all these messy legal matters are settled. Team Flav is suing for more than $25k in lost business and other damages. (TMZ)
After a nasty fallout with former business partners, Flav decided to launch his very own fried chicken and soul food takeout restaurant in Nevada last year.
The one-time member of the rap group Public Enemy is holding opening ceremony Thursday evening at Flavor Flav’s House of Flavor, a few blocks southeast of downtown Las Vegas. It’s the night before the 53rd birthday for the celebrity whose public persona is as big as the clock he wears on his chest. His real name is William Jonathan Drayton Jr., and he’s tried the chicken restaurant recipe before. A short-lived franchise dubbed Flav’s Fried Chicken opened and closed last year in Clinton, Iowa. An announcement says the Las Vegas store isn’t associated with the one in Iowa. (Washington Post)
He previously spoke on his love for the culinary arts and the new restaurant’s theme.
“My secret (shhhh) fried chicken recipe. That’s the star. But we have a red velvet waffle too, and everyone goes ohhhh when they hear that. Go on, you can say it,” Flav said when asked about the menu. “My parents owned a soul food diner. It inspired me to go to culinary school. [Did I get a degree?] I sure did. 1978. Albertson, N.Y. … [The restaurant theme?] Things showcasing my career, a lot of pictures up of me and my celebrity friends. I’ll wait until we expand to put all my clocks on the wall.” (Los Angeles Times)
