Terror Squad leader Fat Joe has weighed-in on Kanye West raising eyebrows with his "New God Flow" Michael Jordan sneaker reference and said the rap star's popular Nike Yeezy kicks still have to play catch-up.
The diehard sneaker collector co-signed the hotness of Ye’s punchline but said the Jordan brand has too many years behind it.
“All right, that’s where the buck stops,” Joe said with a smile. “That was an ill line. Super line. But nobody will ever try to take a shot at Jordan or whatever. Jordan sneakers been around for so long. I think Jordan’s making more money now than when he was playing ball. Very hard. He got about 20, 30 years before he really try to mean that comment. It’s a hot line. I came out, first time in my life and said, ‘I don’t like ball, so to hell with the Rucker,’ it was a hot line, it was a punchline ’cause the Rucker was hot so I just said it and everybody was like, ‘Ohhh.’ Truth is, I love the Rucker, it is what it is.” (Sneaker Watch)
Since “New God Flow” dropped last year, Ye’s line has caught various bloggers’ attention.
Kanye recently released the Air Yeezy 2 shoes through Nike, and their sale caused a shoe-store frenzy surpassing (at least by Kanye’s reckoning) that of the famous Air Jordan shoes. Because of the success of both the Yeezy 2 and it’s predecessor, Kanye feels his shoes have “jumped over” Jordans in terms of popularity. (Rap Genius)

Kanye West is giving sneakerheads a first chance opportunity to own his coveted Nike Air Yeezy 2 sneaker. Set to release later this year in a new red colorway aka the “Red Octobers,” Mr. West announces a three week giveaway of 50 total pairs beginning this Monday, June 24. There is three simple ways to enter: Purchase a CD copy of Kanye’s Yeezus album in-stores, online via iTunes, or for those without the album email [email protected] for a designated code starting June 24. Fans can begin entering during the “Giveaway Entry Period” spanning three dedicated weeks of June 24-June 30, July 1-July 7, and July 8-July 14. The contest is open to legal residents 18-years of age or older within the 50 United States (including the District of Columbia) and Canada (excluding the province of Quebec).
