As if Chief Keef does not have enough problems as it is, an impersonator is making headlines this week after being arrested for attempted robbery in Florida last month.
Details of the failed robbery incident have started to circulate online.
A teenager pretending to be Chief Keef attempted to steal a woman’s car at gunpoint in Florida last month. The would-be carjacker/impersonator ran off when he saw the car was a stick shift. The Pensacola News Journal reports that Escambia County sheriff’s deputies arrested 19-year-old Antoren Bell yesterday for trying to steal an unnamed woman in Pensacola on May 18th. At around 10:30 at night, three teenage girls flagged down the driver. When the driver got out, Bell came up, pointed a gun at the driver, and said the car was now theirs. The driver ran off and called the cops. (JALOPNIK)
The robbery turned into an instant failure once “Chief Keef” realized the vehicle did not have an automatic shift.
Bell and the three girls (one of whom was Bell’s girlfriend) got into the car, but Bell ordered everyone out because he didn’t know how to drive stick. One of the girls later told police that she only knew Bell by his nickname “Chief Keef.” Eventually Bell was found by the cops and identified out of a lineup. Bell was charged with vehicle theft, robbery and criminal mischief. His bond was set at $400,000. (JALOPNIK)
Coincidentally, this news comes shortly after reports of a real Keef-related crime going down in Florida turned up.
Caught riding in a stolen red Ferrari convertible as he celebrated his 17th birthday, Chief Keef had a quick answer for the Miami Beach police sergeant who asked if he was carrying any weapons. “I have weed in my right front pocket,” said Keef, according to a police report of the arrest last August. The sergeant patted down Keef, whose real name is Keith Cozart, and found two clear plastic baggies containing marijuana. He was charged with misdemeanor possession of marijuana and ordered to appear in court on Jan. 23. But there was a problem: By then, Cozart was in jail in Chicago for violating his probation from a gun conviction. A Florida judge issued an arrest warrant, and it remains in effect and will be served if Cozart should ever be stopped around Miami Beach again, authorities said. “We would not travel to Chicago for this type of warrant,” said Miami-Dade Police Detective Javier Baez. Fortunately, Chief’s manager Rovan Manuel said Keef rented the Ferrari from a luxury car company and had no direct connection to it being stolen.
As for the car being stolen, Manuel claimed the car rental agency was embroiled in a dispute with the Ferrari’s owner, who lost the car after he stopped making payments. It was the owner who reported the car stolen, he said. Cozart was not charged with stealing the vehicle, according to records. “He’s a little upset. He still has to fix that problem in Florida but you know how people are that smoke pot. They try not to worry about too much.” (Chicago Tribune)
