Details of the Sunday (July 13) night incident have surfaced online.
A 27-year-old security guard was shot in the neck Sunday night while breaking up a fight at popular Inwood restaurant La Marina, where rapper Fabolous was hanging out, police sources said. Andrew Tolbert was taken to St. Luke’s Hospital, where he was in stable condition Monday, police said. The Brooklyn rapper, who mentions the problematic venue in a rap song saying, “You was in La Marina all summer,” was near the shooting but was not involved, police said. (NY Daily News)
Back in December, buzz about the popular venue possibly suffering a power struggle hit the Internet.
The battle over La Marina has gotten so bizarre that one owner — former taxi bigwig Fernando Mateo — even challenged two of his business partners to a boxing bout to settle their dispute, according to Manhattan Supreme Court papers. Mateo, the former head of the state Federation of Taxi Drivers who bought into the business and now manages it, is at loggerheads with the founding members of the lounge and 22-boat-slip marina on Dyckman Street in Inwood. Fab revealed serious photos of a near-death car crash he was victim to in mid-May.
“Good Morning IG…I just survived a car accident on the Van Wyck in Queens, NY. I wanna Thank God for not only letting me walk away with a few bumps & bruises but also for letting my driver Ruben & the two truck drivers involved walk away alive also.” (Fabolous’ Instagam)
The New York hip-hop heavyweight also detailed how much of an impact the crash had on his life.
“This was my 1st time being in a car accident. It’s a very shocking experience & may change my outlook on how fast things can happen & you’re put into a life threatening situation. Live, Love, & Celebrate Life. #Blessed” (Fabolous’ Instagram)
