[With global attention centered on Baltimore, Maryland amid the death of Freddie Gray this week, former Crips leader-turned-activist/peacemaker Eugene “Big U” Henley gives SOHH his immediate reaction to the six Baltimore police officers being charged with homicide today (May 1).]

I’m sitting here looking at [the news story]. I saw it earlier but I’m reading it now.

My reaction is I’m happily shocked to see they gave them the full charges. I’m glad to be happier [than I was earlier this week] that they actually charged those people with the charges they did.

That’s the way it should have been, all six of them should have been charged and whoever booked [Freddie Gray] and charged him should be charged. If you’re looking at someone in jail, and trust me, you’re supposed to look at that person and tell if that person needs medical attention.

That’s something that’s supposed to happen regardless.

They charged the six officers but they ‘should’ have charged everyone involved in law enforcement.

We look forward to the charges and them being found guilty. We won’t accept nothing less. You have a person that’s dead. Freddie Gray is never going to come back. You have children and you have family that’s never going to see him.

His family is forever scarred.
