[After going through a name-change earlier this year and dropping handfuls of new music, Busta Rhymes protégé Reek talks to SOHH readers about his grind heading into 2014.]
I just took some time off to get myself together. Sometimes Busta is like, “Be patient,” instead of just throwing records out or doing mixtapes after mixtapes. I feel like he was really trying to get a situation for me but I just felt like, in this day and age, even though he’s Busta Rhymes, you can’t find a situation for me. I got to attack it, let’s get it.
At the end of the day, we were moving around with records and having meetings and all of that. But overall, we were around all these people. I knew it was time to get back out there [to the mainstream] when every meeting was going great and it was like, I just had to get that momentum up.
That’s my whole situation and my whole cue. That’s when I was like, “I can’t wait no more. I just got to go out here and really grind.”
That’s basicaly how this new music really came and then at the same time, it’s not all about talent. It’s about relationships. I’ve been taking a lot of time to travel and do a lot of meet-and-greets with people.
I want to establish relationships with other artists so I can do the records with the Kendrick Lamar‘s and the Ace Hood‘s and French Montana‘s and Meek Mill‘s. That’s why even though I haven’t been throwing music out there, I’ve been everywhere on the scene and around everybody.
