Eminem’s “Relapse” To Sell 650K In First Week, No. 1 Album Of 2009

Eminem‘s long-awaited comeback album Relapse is reportedly en route to sell at least 650,000 copies its first week, which will make it the biggest first-week sales for 2009.

While an official count will not be ready for another week, one-day estimates predict Slim Shady will lead all sales by leaps and bounds.

He may be a homophobic, pill-popping, celeb-dissing misogynist, but there are at least 600-650k others who can relate to Eminem. That?s the number of people we estimate will pick up the Detroit hip-hop bad boy?s Relapse, his first album for Shady/Aftermath/Interscope in almost five years, based on reports from retailers across this great nation of ours who haven?t yet hung up a ?For Lease? sign. U2 bowed at #1 with 480k back in March. Def Jam/IDJ?s Method Man & Redman follows with 65-70k and Universal Motown?s iconic Busta Rhymes, reunited with former Elektra topper Sylvia Rhone, both at between 60-65k. (Hits Daily Double)

Em’s international sales are also reportedly racking up.

Eminem’s comeback Relapse (Interscope) is set to return the rapper to the top of the album charts in the U.K. with the biggest week one sale of the year so far. Entertainment retailer HMV reports that the set has proved to be its biggest day one release of 2009. HMV is also predicting total market sales in excess of 175,000 for Relapse, which would make it the biggest opening week so far for an album in 2009. Eminem’s set sold more than 64,000 on its day of release (May 18). (Billboard)

The rapper’s project will reportedly sell nearly 300,000 from Best Buy.

Documents have been suggesting that Best Buy retailers have reported over 6,000 physical units of Eminem’s Relapse sold by 10 am, Tuesday morning. By these projections, the day will see an estimated 133,000 units sold of the Shady/Aftermath/Interscope Records star. According to these figures, the album will be on pace to sell approximately 288,000 units at the mega-retailer alone. (Hip Hop DX)

To get an idea of how Shady is doing in the Big Apple, SOHH spoke with a Union Square Virgin Megastore to see how Tuesday’s new releases are doing.

According to the rep, Busta Rhymes’ Back On My Bullsh*t has sold 25 copies as of this afternoon, Redman and Method Man’s Blackout 2 has sold 46 pieces and Eminem’s Relapse is moving 216 copies since the store opened up this morning. (SOHH)

Busta Rhymes recently told SOHH that he looks forward to the first week sales for all hip-hop albums coming out, which includes albums from DJ Drama and Red Man and Method Man.

“I feel real good about it because its a great day in hip-hop,” he told SOHH. “There aint been this much amazing releases on the same day in a minute. All of this dope shit in the marketplace, hip-hop needs it right now. We need it to show people how lucrative the business of hip-hop music still is on a corporate level. We need to also get these tours up and running. I just look forward to seeing what the outcome is going to be. I’m fans of every one of those artists I’ma be out there buying all three of them shits myself that day.” (SOHH)
