Grammy-winning rapper Eminem's Recovery will reportedly reach double platinum status next week according to one-day sales.
Reports also suggest Eminem’s latest solo effort will reclaim the top spot on the sales charts.
Now that the dust is settling on this week’s Arcade Fire album, whose sales total of 156k was over 62% digital (97k), the HITS Top 50 returns to normal next Tuesday, with Eminem’s Shady/Aftermath/Interscope album Recovery moving back to #1 in its eighth week and sending it over 2 million in sales. The album is currently 19,600 copies away from selling 2 million units.
Grammy-winning rapper Eminem’s Recovery sold 152,100 records this week and remained at No. 2 while Arcade Fire’s Suburbs topped the chart with 156,100 sold units. According to Nielsen SoundScan, Em’s latest solo album has sold 1,980,400 copies after seven weeks in stores. (SOHH Sales Wrap)
Recently, Em discussed not worrying about record sales.
“I don’t think I’ve actually stopped to think about it,” Eminem said referencing being named artist of the decade. “I never thought that my life would amount to this. But to be able to sit back and digest it is so strange to me, because I still feel so regular. I don’t understand what people think the big deal is about me. It’s a very strange relationship that I have with fame…Honestly, as long as people enjoy the music, that means the most to me. I could sell 80 million records in the first week, and if my peers or fans of real hip-hop didn’t like it, it really wouldn’t mean anything.” (Rap Radar)
Em’s manager, Paul Rosenberg, recently said the rap star is preparing to rebuild Shady Records.
“I think he’s really focused on the creative side. He’s never been someone who’s set out to have a bunch of different companies out there, sort of playing the system. He’s just not that kind of guy.” The one project Eminem and Rosenberg are focused on is the rebuilding of their label, Shady Records. “What we mean by that is finding great new artists,” Rosenberg says. “That’s one of the things he is passionate about.” Eminem has cited underground all-stargroup Slaughterhouse as his first planned signing, and he says more artists are on the table but not ready to be announced.
