Grammy-winning rapper Eminem's Recovery will reportedly battle to regain its spot atop the sales charts next week.
Based on one-day estimates, Em’s album will likely have to sell around 90,000 copies to have a shot at debuting at No. 1.
Sara Bareilles returns this week with her second Epic album, Kaleidoscope Heart, the follow-up to her 2007 Gold-certified Little Voice and its hit, Grammy-nominated single, “Love Song.” Based on first-day reports from those retailers who haven’t fled to Vermont to start a bed-and-breakfast, Bareilles’ sophomore release will be the week’s top debut at 80-90k, which will put it in direct competition with Eminem’s Recovery for the #1 spot on next Tuesday’s HITS Top 50 Album sales chart. This week, Em’s new album managed to sell over 92,000 records.
Grammy-winning rapper Eminem’s Recovery kept put at No. 3 this week with 92,500 records sold and fell two spots behind Disturbed‘s Asylum which topped the charts with 179,500 sold albums. According to Nielsen SoundScan, Slim Shady’s new LP has sold 2,420,400 records after 11 weeks in stores. (SOHH Sales Wrap)
Recently, Em discussed not worrying about record sales.
“I don’t think I’ve actually stopped to think about it,” Eminem said referencing being named artist of the decade. “I never thought that my life would amount to this. But to be able to sit back and digest it is so strange to me, because I still feel so regular. I don’t understand what people think the big deal is about me. It’s a very strange relationship that I have with fame…Honestly, as long as people enjoy the music, that means the most to me. I could sell 80 million records in the first week, and if my peers or fans of real hip-hop didn’t like it, it really wouldn’t mean anything.” (Rap Radar)
Em’s manager, Paul Rosenberg, recently said the rap star is preparing to rebuild Shady Records.
“I think he’s really focused on the creative side. He’s never been someone who’s set out to have a bunch of different companies out there, sort of playing the system. He’s just not that kind of guy.” The one project Eminem and Rosenberg are focused on is the rebuilding of their label, Shady Records. “What we mean by that is finding great new artists,” Rosenberg says. “That’s one of the things he is passionate about.” Eminem has cited underground all-stargroup Slaughterhouse as his first planned signing, and he says more artists are on the table but not ready to be announced.
