Grammy-winning rapper Eminem's recent achievement as the only artist to sell over one million digital copies of an album has already been outdone by United Kingdom singer Adele.
According to reports, Adele’s 21 has sold 1.017 million digital units compared to Eminem’s Recovery which stands at 1.0005 million.
For the moment, English songbird Adele can claim a victory over Eminem although the pair is not at odds with one another. The soulful singer has surpassed the Detroit bad boy with the most digital sales of her sophomore effort 21 – passing Slim Shady’s Recovery album and giving her the top nod. Adele also has the top spot with physical copies of her latest selling over 2.6 million. (Rapfix)
In early July, Interscope Records’ Vice Chairman Steve Berman broke the news of Em’s accomplishment.
This record-setting career milestone comes just one week after the artist landed at No. 1 with Hell: The Sequel, the release fromBad Meets Evil, the duo formed by Eminem and fellow Detroit native Royce Da 5’9.” This marks the first time in the last five years an artist has scored two No. 1 albums within a 12-month period. “Recovery selling 1 million digital albums is an incredible achievement by an incredible artist,” says Interscope Records’ Vice Chairman Steve Berman in a release. Em’s longtime manager Paul Rosenberg also shared his reaction to the achievement.
“We are thrilled to congratulate Eminem on the history-making digital sales success of Recovery. Over the years we’ve made a concerted effort to engage Em’s online fan base so this achievement is especially rewarding. Eminem made an amazing album with Recovery and the fans responded in record numbers.” (Statement)
In regard to physical sales, Recovery is nearing the four million copies sold mark.
Shady Records CEO Eminem’s Recovery received a one-slot boost to No. 34 with 10,700. With 55 weeks knocked out, Em’s 2010 solo album has sold 3,943,000 records. (SOHH Sales Wrap)
