Grammy-winning artists Eminem and Rihanna have reportedly been green lighted to shoot a music video together this upcoming week.
According to director Joseph Kahn, the duo will likely record their “Love the Way You Lie” Recovery song on Tuesday, July 21st.
“Got off a call. Emergency music video. Gonna write and turn in a treatment in three hours to shoot asap.”
“Video is gonna happen. Lots of work to do now.”
“Video is awarded. Starts shooting Tuesday. Eminem & Rihanna. Off we go!,” Kahn wrote publicly via his Twitter page over the weekend. (Joseph Kahn’s Twitter)
With over a decade of work to his name, Kahn previously gained recognition for directing Em’s “Without Me” hit single.
Kahn has collected multiple Music Video Production awards. He has won several MTV Video Music Awards with nominations for Best Video of the Year for Brandy & Monica “The Boy is Mine”, and Britney Spears “Toxic”. In 2002 he won his first Grammy for Eminem’s “Without Me” video which also won the MTV VMA’s Best Video of the Year, as well as Best Direction. (Wikipedia)
“Love the Way You Lie” producer Alex da Kid recently talked with SOHH about how the song came together.
“Eminem wanted Rihanna on the song. But even before all this happened, I’m working on her new album and so we’re already kinda working together and he just sent it to her and she just loved it. She doesn’t really do too much, as far as collaborations but everybody just loved it so much that they wanted to get on it. I love the song. I had a really big reaction to the “Airplane” record and it’s the same with this new one. It’s even bigger. I’m getting e-mails now, especially from girls saying that they cried when they first heard it and the reaction has been great. I’ve actually got groupies now!” (SOHH Guest Star)
Em’s new record takes listeners a bit closer into his personal life.
Em reflects upon an abusive relationship (likely his own, with ex-wife Kim), while Rihanna provides the delicate and ultimately submissive counterpoint to his rage-filled confusion. Yet by tapping into the extreme emotion that is Em’s hallmark, and connecting to Rihanna’s own complex history as a recovering abuse victim, “Love the Way You Lie” throws into question the very stereotypes it evokes.
