Grammy-winning rapper Eminem made his comeback performance Sunday (May 31) night at the 2009 MTV Movie Awards in California and had an awkward moment with a half-dressed Sacha Baron Cohen that left fans questioning if the event was staged or accidental.

Marshall Mathers kicked-off his set by performing “We Made You” and “Crack A Bottle.”

Capping off a stirring comeback five years after his last record, Em took the stage to perform his first two Relapse singles. Dressed in jeans, white sneakers, white hoodie, vest and cap, the rapper stepped down the stage’s staircase and pumped his fist as he launched into “We Made You,” and staying behind Em on the steps throughout the performance was a big band that included drums, sax, trumpet and trombone. For the next song, Em stalked around the stage, slapping hands with eager audience members as digital lyrics flashed on and off on the steps behind him. As the track came to a close, the rapper said thank-you, flashed the peace sign and headed away, surely leaving the crowd hoping he won’t be gone for long this time around. (MTV)

Shady also became the center of attention after an alleged stunt by comedian Sacha Baron Cohen.

Eminem apparently has flown the coop from the MTV Movie Awards after a close encounter with Sacha Baron Cohen when, in character as flamboyant fashion reporter “Bruno,” Baron Cohen flew in above Sunday’s award show audience on a wire and in a pair of feathery white wings and his rear end mostly exposed. But the comedian crashed into an overhead obstacle, and he was lowered into the audience, right into Eminem’s lap, his bare hindquarters in the rapper’s face. Eminem seemed visibly upset at the mishap. Or was it a joke he was in on? The rapper stormed out with his entourage in tow with cameras rolling. (Associated Press)

Aside from Em, the ceremony was marked with a large grouping of award winners.

“Best Villain” (Heath Ledger, The Dark Knight), “Breakthrough Performance Female” (Ashley Tisdale, High School Musical 3), “Best Fight Winner” (Robert Pattinson & Cam Gigandet, Twilight), “Breakthrough Performance Male” (Robert Pattinson, Twilight), “Best Male Performance” (Zac Efron, High School Musical 3), “Best Kiss” (Kristen Stewart & Robert Pattinson, Twilight), “Best WTF Moment” (Amy Poehler, Baby Mama), “Best Song From A Movie” (Miley Cyrus, Hannah Montana: The Movie), “Generation Award” (Ben Stiller), “Best Female Performance” (Kristen Stewart, Twilight), “Best Comedic Performance” (Jim Carrey).
