Grammy-winning rapper Eminem knows about platinum-selling hip-hop classics and has put Kendrick Lamar‘s good kid, m.A.A.d city up there with greatness.

This week, Em explained the impact K. Dot’s now-epic 2012 release has had on him.

In a new GQ cover feature, Kendrick speaks on the direction of his next solo album in comparison to 2015’s To Pimp A Butterfly.

“That was me then,” Lamar said in an interview. “Not to say that it wouldn’t be continuous. It’ll always have some type of DNA in my music. But me, as a person, I grow. I’m like a chameleon. You know? That is a gift and a curse for me. But more so a gift, because it never puts me in a box. And my ability to express and still make the connection wherever I go, that is my high point. That’s something I pride myself off of.” (GQ)

Earlier this year, Lamar’s untitled unmastered album crushed its competition atop the sales chart.

Kendrick Lamar’s surprise Untitled Unmastered album debuts at No. 1 on the Billboard 200 chart, earning 178,000 equivalent album units in the week ending March 10, according to Nielsen Music. Of that sum, 142,000 were in pure album sales. (Billboard)

Days prior, NBA superstar LeBron James weighed-in on Kendrick’s untitled unmastered album.

“I got an opportunity to listen to some music last few days and obviously, a good friend of mine, Kendrick, blessed me with that album that just dropped. So I can even lock in, kind of use that for motivation moving forward. So shout-out Kendrick, Top Dawg, you know, everybody there at TDE, making that great music. Appreciate it man, everything is love and it’s going to be a great stretch run for our ball club, for our team and looking forward to seeing all y’all either in the Q[uicken Loans Arena] or on the road. Let’s gear up, stay sharp, and you already know to strive for greatness.” (“Uninterrupted”)
