Drake’s “Take Care” First-Week Sales Projections Revealed

Young Money's Drake appears ready to take on the sophomore jinx as his Take Care solo album is projected to sell up to 725,000 copies in its opening week.

Based on one day estimates, Drizzy’s LP will easily debut atop the competition next week.

The rapper, whose sophomore YM/CM/Universal Republic album, Take Care, is the follow-up to last year’s successful bow, Thank Me Later, will debut at #1 with a sales total between 675-725k. Glassnote Records latest discovery, Community star Donald Glover‘s hip-hop persona Childish Gambino’s debut album Camp will open with a very impressive 45-50k. Finally, Trill/Fontana hip-hop artist Baton Rouge rapper Webbie’s third installment of the Savage Life series, is set to bow with 24-27k. (HITS Daily Double)

Last week, Drizzy said he did not think Take Care could sell a million copies in seven days.

“That’s the golden number for anyone,” Drake said when asked if a million copies in his first week is what he is shooting for. “I doubt that’ll happen. That’s some Lil Wayne, Eminem iconic sh*t. I don’t know if I’m there yet. Whoever goes out and buys it, I’m happy. I’d rather have great reviews than numbers. I’d rather walk out of my house and hear seven cars playing it than hear that I did 900,000.” (Billboard)

Former Cash Money Records artist Juvenile recently gave his input on if Drizzy’s leaked album would hurt his sales in the long run.

“It’s crazy, ’cause the album is stupid. You don’t want the album to get bootlegged, but when the album is this good, I don’t think it will hurt it. If anything it might help it in the end. I’m definitely squeezing him on my album too. Before this album leak happened I was already back and forth with his peoples to get clearance to do a song.” (BET)

In June 2010, Drake’s debut album also topped the sales charts.

Young Money rapper Drake’s Thank Me Later finally debuted on the charts this week landing at No. 1. According to Nielsen SoundScan, the rapper’s long-awaited debut moved 447,300 units after seven days in stores. (SOHH Sales Wrap)
