While Young Money's Drake is still putting together his forthcoming Take Care album, friend/producer Boi-1da promises fans can anticipate even bigger records than his recent "Headlines" single.
While Boi feels “Headlines” may have received mixed reactions, he promises Take Care will offer plenty for Drizzy lovers.
“I’ve been working on Drake’s second album, Take Care. The sh*t sounds amazing,” Boi promised in an interview. “I’ve also been working on … I did a track with 50 Cent. I got like a lot of stuff, and every time somebody asks me this question I freeze up. Busta Rhymes, I got a couple of tracks for his new album. Um … a lot of people, I just, I don’t know why I can’t remember right now…[Drake’s] got like a lot of good songs on the album. ‘Headlines’ is a dope record. And, it does what it does. Some people like it, some people don’t…It’s a fun song; it’s catchy. It goes hard. But Drake has a lot of songs on his album that are spectacular.” (Hip Hop DX)
In addition to recently promising Stevie Wonder would appear on the LP, he also said fellow Canadian artist The Weeknd is present on his 2010 Thank Me Later follow-up.
“Not only did he inspire me to get out there and sing better on stage, he inspired me writing wise, music wise, just to better my product,” Drake explained in an interview. “He’s on my album a lot. We really collaborated a lot on this album…He’s one of the greatest artists I’ve ever heard. To hear someone with an incredible body of work is very rare. It’s very inspiring. We formed OVOXO, which is taking over right now. I’m proud of him. He works real hard. He’s just an incredible person, [has] become a really close friend to me.” (The Juice)
Earlier this summer, Drake hinted at Weeknd’s presence on his upcoming LP.
“The single’s dropping a week-and-a-half, two weeks. It’ll be fun. It’s going to be a blast,” Drake told FADER writer Judnick Mayard. “It’s great. I’m really excited about it. Just trying out different things, different sounds, different flows… We’re all in a really great place in our lives just as a team, the team’s coming together. 40‘s doing really well. We’ve got new editions. We have this affiliation with The Weeknd. It’s really great. He’s on the album a bunch. I’m excited about it just for the people to hear the evolution of the music.” (The FADER)
Drizzy released the project’s first official single in late July.
First thing this morning, on the day of the second annual OVO Festival (July 31), Drake released the first single off “Take Care” (Oct. 24), titled “Headlines.” On the Boi-1da and Noah “40” Shebib-produced track, Drake humbly rhymes about the money he’s stacking and claims “the real is on the rise.” Before releasing “Headlines” through his website, October’s Very Own, Drizzy teased fans with tracks such as “Marvin’s Room” and “Trust Issues.” “Marvin’s Room” jumped twelve slots on the R&B/Hip-Hop Songs chart to No. 23 last week. Take Care is slated to hit stores October 24th.
