Young Money's Drake has cleared up the mounted speculation behind his new Nothing Was The Same cover art and what the real story is behind the illustration.
Despite online jokes about Drizzy using an illustration of Jay Z and Beyoncé’s daughter Blue Ivy Carter, he admitted it is a younger version of himself.
“When you go to the store and see it, you’ll see the full painting,” Drake explained in an interview. “When it’s positioned on the shelf, whatever store you go to, if they do it as I’ve asked [laughs], you’ll see the fact that it’s a child version of myself staring at myself now. Sometimes when I try and think back on this journey, it’s so hard to pinpoint all of these moments and it gets foggy. Even on past albums when I’ve been trying to tell this story, I’ve got there, but maybe not got there all the way. And what that album art is to me is, like, this is my most clean, concise thoughts from now, and my best recollection of then. That’s really what that cover’s about.” (MTV)
The rap star also explained the importance of taking a unique approach to his third solo album’s cover art.
“It’s not just a photo of me posted up. You can get that anywhere,” Drake added. “You can pick up a magazine. I wanted to give people something that they’d be like, ‘I’ll never forget this right here.’ And it’s vibrant and there’s something about it that captures you, and I think that’s kinda how this album sounds. Not to say that it’s “light” by any means.” (MTV)

Started as a baby, now he’s here. Drake illustrates his evolution from childhood to manhood on the cover art for his third album Nothing Was the Same. He revealed the two covers on his website OVOSound.com and confirmed the new September 24 release date. The illustrated artwork was designed by artist Kadir Nelson, who designed the cover for Michael Jackson‘s posthumous album Michael. One cover shows a profile of the Toronto MC as a baby with an Afro pick in his hair, while the other image depicts a grown-up Drizzy against the same sky blue backdrop. (Rap-Up)
Based on recent reports, the LP would will now arrive a week later than initially scheduled.
Additional details were only just revealed about Drake’s upcoming third set Nothing Was The Same, but there’s one crucial piece of new information that surfaced today: The album, originally scheduled for a September 17 release, has now been pushed back to September 24, according to Hits Daily Double (via Complex). The LP includes collaborations with Jay-Z, Lil Wayne and Hudson Mohawke, as well as singles “Hold On We’re Going Home” and “Started From The Bottom.” But don’t fret — producer Noah “40?
