Young Money star Drake recently revealed his distanced relationship with fellow labelmate Nicki Minaj claiming since they became famous their bond has loosened.
Performing in front of a loud crowd, Drizzy opened up about Nicki.
“Maybe I should call up Nicki Minaj and tell her how much I love her and how proud I am because it feels like ever since we got famous, we really don’t talk anymore,” Drake told a screaming crowd of fans. “All I wanna do is hear her voice again for once in my life. Maybe I should. And that’s real sh*t too. D*mn.” (Hot 102.7)
Last summer, Minaj talked about pranking fans by claiming she and Drizzy tied the knot.
“No, Drama, don’t be silly,” Minaj told Drama when asked about expecting kids with Drake. “Drake is just my little brother and I kid with him all the time. That’s all. Yes, yes, we were just being crazy and I think we were a little bit bored. I wouldn’t say we were bored, but we were being just mischievous. I did another interview and they asked me and I said, everyday I see things written about me that aren’t true. So I wanted to kinda give the blogs a little bit of payback and put my own story out. [laughs] I don’t date boys, I don’t like boys. [laughs] It’s true — I think boys are yucky and that’s it. There’s nothing more to say.” (Hot 107.9)
The joke also tricked Drake’s mom who thought they may have actually married.
“My mom was actually like, ‘What happened? How did you elope?’ ” the rapper, 23, told PEOPLE at the MTV Movie Awards Sunday. “But we were just joking around. I never thought it would get so out of hand…Ironically, I got a ring for myself, so people were like, ‘Aw, you got married, and you have a ring you’re wearing. People still think it’s real. I’ll look at a girl, and she’ll be like, ‘You’re a married man. You shouldn’t look at me that way.'” (PEOPLE)
In summer 2010, Drake opened up about their pre-fame days and having a crush on the self-proclaimed Barbie.
“When I was on tour … I saw Nicki for the first time and, like, literally fell in love,” he said in an interview with DJ Envy. “She had this snap-back hat on that said ‘Minaj.’ She used to wear that every single day. She was like a theater student and she was so cold at rapping…I remember one of the first nights that we were out in Miami and I went to Jerry’s [Famous Deli]. I was like [to Minaj], ‘You want food, you hungry?,’ and she was like, ‘Yeah, I want some food.’ I was like, ‘I’m in, we gon’ eat food together.’ I came to her door and she took the food and shut the door in my face! I was just like, ‘Man, this is gonna be a long road for us.’ … I’ve always really, actually, really had a crush on her, always really loved her, and she’s always just looked at me as, like, her little brother.” (“Sucker Free”)
