Young Money’s Drake has kept the fire burning for his labelmate Nicki Minaj and said despite last year’s marriage hoax, he could see himself putting a wedding band around her finger.
Based on an excerpt from his feature in Elle Magazine, Drizzy speaks on settling down with Nicki and his brief hook-up with R&B star Rihanna.
“I don’t know if we were really pretending. I’d marry Nicki. I think Nicki would be one of the only people that would understand me at the end of all of this and be able to love me,” Drake reveals about his Young Money group member. “I guess I thought it was more [with me and RiRi]. That was the first girl with any fame that paid me any mind. You spend days reading about this person in magazines. All of a sudden you have this number-one song and you’re at some birthday party and there she is. And you’re just some naive kid from Toronto staying in some sh–ty-ass hotel who got invited to this party on a whim. That’s just how it happened.” (Elle Magazine)
Last night, Drake opened up about rumors surrounding him and tennis superstar Serena Williams.
The rapper took the opportunity to debut new single “Make Me Proud”, which features a guest verse from Young Money label mate Nicki Minaj. But pressed by DJ Funkmaster Flex, Drake said he’s not dating tennis pro Serena Williams–or former flame Rihanna, stating he’s now just “super-good friends” with the singer. “I think she’s got her own thing going on,” he told DJ Funkmaster Flex. “I haven’t caught up with her in a while.” As for Williams, with whom he was spotted at the U.S. Open in August, he said playing tennis is “really good exercise,” but denied her recent so-called “booty-popping tape” was filmed at his home. “The wood is actually a walnut in my condo,” he laughed. In August, Williams downplayed the media’s romanticized reports of her and Drizzy.
She looked around to her supporters — her father Richard, and, elsewhere, Toronto rapper Drake. Later, she would sigh exaggeratedly when asked what the deal is between her and the 24-year-old musical polymath. “Oh, man. Really?” she said. “We’re really close friends. Can’t be too close to a friend nowadays, I guess.” (Toronto Star)
Nicki Minaj recently talked about envisioning kids and marriage down the road.
Having gotten past those low points, the MC tells the magazine that she has firm plans for a bright future. “I will have put out five albums and will have an Oscar and Grammys,” she predicted. “And I will be getting married and, a couple of years after that will have a bun in the oven. … My whole life is about being Nicki Minaj now. It’s a never-ending saga.” (MTV)
