Drake Says He’s Prepared For The Worst W/ Kendrick Lamar: “It’ll Be Cool – If It’s Not, Then That’s How Our Story Unfolds”

Young Money's Drake is not holding back his thoughts toward Kendrick Lamar months after being singled out by his "Control" verse and explained what really irked him about the entire situation.

According to Drizzy, his main problem with K. Dot was being called out during the promotion of last fall’s Nothing Was The Same LP.

“The sentiment he was putting forth is what he should have. Of course you wanna be the best. Where it became an issue is that I was rolling out an album while that verse was still bubbling, so my album rollout became about this thing. What am I supposed to say? Nah, we’ll be buddy-buddy? Mind you, I never once said he’s a bad guy [or] I don’t like him. I think he’s a f*cking genius in his own right, but I also stood my ground as I should. And with that came another step, which then I have to realize I’m being baited and I’m not gonna fall. Jordan doesn’t have to play pickup to prove that he could play ball, no offense. But I’m not gonna give you the chance to shake me necessarily, ’cause I feel great.” (VIBE)

The Toronto native also admitted he saw no real problems with Lamar but would be prepared for the worst if they meet face-to-face.

“There’s no real issue. It’s tough because the people wanna see us tear each other down; I don’t wanna give them that. There’s no point. I have no ill feelings toward that guy. It’s just like, it’s there for me if I wanna fall for it. I’m just too smart for that. Hopefully it’s the last time I gotta talk about this, ’cause every time I open my mouth up about it, they take this piece and take this piece. And he’s hungry, so he’s going to do what he has to do like the BET [cypher]. But again, it’s not enough for me to go. We haven’t seen each other [since the BET cypher,] but I’m sure we’ll see each other and it’ll be cool. And if it’s not, then I guess that’s how our story unfolds.” (VIBE)

This week, various media outlets suggested Drizzy dropped a Lamar diss on rapper Future’s “Sh!t” remix.

Earlier today Future’s tour DJ, Esco, dropped the remix to “Sh!t” featuring Drake and Juicy J. While Drake doesn’t address Kendrick Lamar directly, Internet consensus is that the Toronto rapper takes aim at Compton’s finest in his opening verse: “And if a n*gga say my name, he the hot sh*t /But if I say that n*gga name he still the hot sh*t /F*cked up, lucky I don’t feed into the gossip /N*ggas act like they don’t know but they should know /Yeah, I just think it’s funny how they danglin’ the bait /But I’m the one whose killin’ n*ggas on the hooks though” (Complex)

Last month, Lamar said he had no real gripes with Drake and felt the Toronto native was very necessary for the new wave in music.

“I was having fun, rapping, man,” K. Dot replied when asked if he took shots at Drake during his TDE cypher. “Yeah. Nah, we we just having fun, you feel what I’m saying? Hip-hop is a sport and people are going to dissect lyrics and that’s what it’s about at the end of the day. I got nothing against Drake. He put out a great album, again, he’s doing his thing. He’s a part of this new generation that’s doing this music, you feel me?” (“The Breakfast Club”)
