Just 48 hours away from the long-awaited release of Drake's Take Care album, the Young Money star has weighed in on how he sees his upcoming first-week sales.
Admitting a million copies in seven days is any artist’s aim, including himself, Drizzy said this time around he is most concerned with fans appreciating his sophomore LP.
“That’s the golden number for anyone,” Drake said when asked if a million copies in his first week is what he is shooting for. “I doubt that’ll happen. That’s some Lil Wayne, Eminem iconic sh*t. I don’t know if I’m there yet. Whoever goes out and buys it, I’m happy. I’d rather have great reviews than numbers. I’d rather walk out of my house and hear seven cars playing it than hear that I did 900,000.” (Billboard)
Former Cash Money Records artist Juvenile recently gave his input on if Drizzy’s leaked album would hurt his sales in the long run.
“It’s crazy, ’cause the album is stupid. You don’t want the album to get bootlegged, but when the album is this good, I don’t think it will hurt it. If anything it might help it in the end. I’m definitely squeezing him on my album too. Before this album leak happened I was already back and forth with his peoples to get clearance to do a song.” (BET)
Last weekend, Drizzy addressed the LP’s online leak.
“I am not sure if the album leaked. But if it did thank god it doesn’t happen a month early anymore.,” Drizzy tweeted November 6th.

Despite also suffering a leak, Drake’s Thank Me Later debut sold nearly 450,000 first-week copies in June 2010.
Drizzy’s long-awaited, highly anticipated debut LP, Thank Me Later, had many fans and critics speculating that he might be able to sell one million records. The industry insiders at hitsdailydouble.com projected the Toronto talent to do about half, but now the legitimate numbers have been tabulated. According to the Nielsen SoundScan, the Young Money artist has sold 447,300 units, the biggest first week numbers of the year, so far. (XXL Mag)
