Buzz behind Drizzy’s decision to try his hand at a new organization surfaced online Monday (April 1).

Drake has signed with ASCAP, the company’s VP of Rhythm & Soul Membership, Nicole George-Middleton, told Billboard exclusively today. “For me, a big part of making music is getting the opportunity to work with people I love, trust and respect,” Drake says. “As an organization run by music creators, ASCAP represents a whole community of kindred spirits. Joining ASCAP was just a natural choice for me because I know my music is in the best possible hands.” Drake is joining a roster that includes his longtime friend and producer, Noah “40” Shebib. He had previously been with BMI. (Billboard)

The company’s VP of Rhythm & Soul Membership Nicole George-Middleton also boasted about the new situation.

“We are really excited to build on our longstanding relationship with Drake’s team,” George-Middleton added. “Working from the beginning with his collaborators Noah ’40’ Shebib and Boi-1da, it felt only right to have Drake join the ASCAP family.” “We’re thrilled to now officially count Drake among our many multi-talented members,” ASCAP EVP of Membership Randy Grimmett stated. “This new addition only strengthens ASCAP’s reputation as home to the world’s greatest songwriters. We can’t wait to see what’s to come for Drake in the future.” (Billboard)

Last September, Drizzy won at the BMI Urban Awards along with Young Money sidekick Lil Wayne.

Drake and Lil Wayne shared the Songwriter of the Year crown by each writing seven songs that rank among the year’s most-performed. The win marks the second consecutive Songwriter of the Year title for Drake, whose top contributions include “Aston Martin Music,” “Headlines,” “Moment 4 Life,” and “What’s My Name?,” as well as “Right Above It,” “I’m On One” and “She Will,” which he co-wrote with Lil Wayne. Lil Wayne’s four additional smashes include “6 Foot 7 Foot,” “How to Love,” “Look at Me Now,” and “Motivation.” (BMI)

Drizzy is currently putting in work toward his upcoming third solo album.

“I just won a Grammy [for Best Rap Album]. I think music, it’s a process we all go through. It’s an evolution. You’re constantly figuring out what works for you. Should you direct your own videos? Should you be more involved in certain aspects? With Take Care, I really found myself, found my stride. I’m excited to continue on with the new album, the album is titled Nothing Was the Same. I’m just excited about life in general.” (E! Online)
