With his focus solely on the Take Care project, Drizzy admitted his long-awaited It’s Never Enough R&B mixtape will be put on hold indefinitely.

“I am truly enjoying my life right now,” Drake wrote Monday (February 7). “Its been so long since I have wrote anything on here because I feel like for a while I was trying to digest it all and save it for the music. But its finally set in that I am living my dreams and doing with all my closest friends from Toronto. I wake up and never know what to expect from any given day but good or bad I always learn something from it. I have decided that I am going to push “It’s Never Enough” and focus completely on delivering Take Care to you all. I feel like my mind is truly ready to make this next album NOW and I don’t want that feeling to escape me. My mother is doing well for all who have been asking. She went to her first swimming class the other day and won gold…not really but you know what I mean. OVO gang is all smiles and 40 is making some of the best music I have heard in my entire career. I am in the airport right now headed to LA to meet up with Boi 1da tonight. Its all feeling right. Its truly been a pleasure to speak again. Thank you for all your energy. Soon. Guidance.” (October’s Very Own)

Last fall, Drake explained his decision to divert from recording R&B.

“I been rapping a lot lately,” Drake told MTV News. “Me and 40 (Noah Shebib, his producer) have been doing some great rap music, so I sort of took a hiatus on the R&B for a second. It’s cool to do R&B, I love it, but it’s just hard for me to always commit to it. Because some nights, I get in there and 40’s beats, as melodic or R&B-driven as they may be, just have that right pocket that I just wanna spit.” (MTV)

In October, Drake released a record from his delayed mixtape, the TLC-inspired, “I Get Lonely Too”.

Produced by Drizzy’s partner in crime, Noah Shebib aka 40, “I Get Lonely Too” isn’t exactly a new song, as it is his spin on legendary girl group TLC’s song “Fanmail.” Where TLC’s “Fanmail” was a bouncy, futuristic love letter to their fans to tell them they’re more alike than they think, Drake’s “I Get Lonely Too” is a mellow, almost dark portrait of his longing for companionship. Drizzy isn’t much of a vocalist, but what he lacks in vocal ability, he makes up for in emotion — or maybe it’s just expert studio vocal manipulation. Either way, it’s an appetizing sample of Drizzy’s mixtape, It’s Never Enough, hitting the internet soon. (Neon Limelight)

In a past interview, Drake said his rhyming skills outweighed his R&B talent.

“I could never really take singing on the road the way I can take rapping on the road. I can’t get on stage and blow people away with my range and vocals. I’m a studio singer because I can convey emotion and I have unique melodies, so that’s kind of what I pride myself on, but that’s where it stops. I make music more for people to listen to rather than to hold me as an R&B artist. Not to wish that I couldn’t sing better. If I could sing like Trey [Songz] then yeah, I’d definitely just want to be a singer. If I could do anything, trust me, I wish I could just sit at the piano and sing.” (VIBE)

Drake’s Take Care is expected to drop around fall 2011.
