Drake Leads BET Awards W/ Monstrous 12 Nominations, Kendrick Lamar & 2 Chainz Follow

Young Money’s Drake should make some room in his trophy case as he leads next month’s 2013 BET Awards with a grand total of 12 nominations.

According to reports, Drizzy landed the most nods followed by frequent collaborators 2 Chainz and Kendrick Lamar.

He started from the bottom, but now he’s on top at the BET Awards: Drake has 12 nominations. BET announced the nominees Tuesday. Rappers Kendrick Lamar and 2 Chainz are up for 8 awards each. Hollywood veteran Chris Tucker will have the spotlight on him next month as the annual event’s host.

Following a legacy of great hosts, BET Networks has announced that actor and comedian Chris Tucker will host the BET Awards 2013 on Sunday, June 30, 2013 at Nokia Theatre L.A. Live in Los Angeles, CA. Tucker, who commanded Hollywood’s attention as the highest paid actor during his blockbuster Rush Hour film series, once again is taking Hollywood by storm with his recent role in the Oscar-nominated film, Silver Linings Playbook. Last year, rap stars Jay-Z and Kanye West came through and went home with trophies.

The Black Entertainment Television airwaves are lighting up as the BET Awards is bringing its annual parade of black Hollywood and music industry talent to America, with the big winners thus far including Nicki Minaj, Kevin Hart, Beyonce, Jay-Z and Kanye West. The show opened with Spike Lee joining host Samuel L. Jackson on the stage to deliver a hilarious rendition of Jay-Z and Kanye West’s “N*ggas in Paris”–except theirs was called “Negroes in Paris.” Kanye West and Jay-Z won for Best Group and when Kanye went onstage to accept the award, apparently unaware that Jay-Z was in the house, he appeared shocked when Jay walked out to join him.
