“Drake Kept His Circle Small & Continued To Attack No Matter What Came In His Way”

Days after Young Money's Drake showcased his acting chops on "Saturday Night Live," SOHH hit up the rapper's longtime friend/producer Omen for a take on his growth as an entertainer.

The New York hit maker, who has worked alongside Drake during and after his pre-fame days, said there is no limit to what Drizzy can do.

“Drake’s out of here, man. He’s so busy. He’s definitely a talented dude. Dedicated. He won. In this game, that’s what you got to do. You have to know what you want and you have to go get it,” Omen told SOHH when asked about his take on Drake’s growth as an entertainer. “He kept his circle small and continued to attack no matter what came in his way. He attacks no matter what comes in his way with his acting or whatever it is. He has the right machine in front of him to do it.” (SOHH)

Omen also explained how Drizzy paved his own lane in the music industry.

“I think Drake’s sound now is him,” O added. “For anyone trying to emulate him, it’s just going to sound like some Drake sh*t. He’s got his own sound. Of course you always want to fix the sound a little and enhance it. It’s just like a phone. You’re going to get that initial phone and then you’re like, ‘I want the new phone. What’s up with the new features?’ It’s just a matter of adding features and little things to keep him on top of the game.” (SOHH)

During Drizzy’s opening “SNL” segment last weekend, he showed off some impressive acting chops by impersonating rap’s biggest stars including mentor Lil Wayne.

During his opening monologue, Drake apologized for unleashing “YOLO” upon the world, before staging a re-enactment of his Bar Mitzvah. It featured him rapping about being both black and Jewish. He impersonated Lil Wayne (as Steve Urkel on “Family Matters”) and Jay-Z (as a guest on “Mr. Wizard”) during a sketch about hip-hop stars being on unlikely TV shows before they were famous. (That sketch also featured Kenan Thompson as Rick Ross as the red Teletubby, an image that shall remain imprinted upon my mind forever and ever.) (Pitchfork)

Drizzy showed off his star power earlier this month after showing up for “Drake Night” at a Toronto Raptors basketball game.

Such was the case for “Drake Night” this past Saturday where the eponymous rapper was all over the place doing everything for the Raptors short of kissing babies and hugging senior citizens and he did it all in his “OVO” Air Jordan 10s, one of the most talked about Jordans in recent memory. And considering the Raptors beat the surging Brooklyn Nets as well, maybe “Drake Night” needs to be a regular thing that other NBA teams need to consider with their local rappers.
