Young Money’s Drake showed how much he appreciates his new Grammy trophy over the weekend in new footage showing him using it to pour liquor and pass it around with friends.
In the footage, Drake is shown opening up a box containing his Grammy and promptly putting his dirnk inside of it.
Drake’s album Take Care won the 2012 Grammy for Best Rap Album back in February, but the actual golden gramophone award only recently arrived in the “Started From The Bottom” rapper’s hands. So, what did he do when he got it? Poured liquor in it, ala Jay-Z, and passed it around to the entire crew for shots, of course. Drizzy is hoping to have the same luck with his upcoming album, Nothing Was The Same, which he recently announced would drop on September 17. (XXL Mag)
Back in February, rap mogul Jay-Z made headlines when he poured liquor into a Grammy trophy.
Forget about gold bottles. After taking home three Grammys on Sunday night, Jay-Z came up with a new way to celebrate. While backstage posing for photographers, Beyoncé’s husband was snapped pouring a drink in to his gramophone trophy. Blue Ivy‘s giddy dad had plenty to toast to: The rapper won Best Rap Performance, Best Rap/Sung Collaboration and Best Rap Song. His acceptance speech, which included a playful dig at collaborator The-Dream, for “No Church in the Wild” even had the musical crowd at the Staples Center in stitches with laughter. (E! Online)
Back in February, Drake talked about winning his first-ever Grammy.
“We were watching it on the iPad, the pre-telecast and it kept cutting out and then it just cut back on for the moment, ‘Best Rap album goes to,’ and they said Take Care and I almost said ‘Oh, I didn’t [win],’ it almost didn’t even sound like my album and then we just started going nuts and we got out, literally in the street, blocked cars, we all hugged, and then when we got back into the car, I realized I had torn my suit. So I stopped at a hotel, told the tailor to meet me there and she sewed up my suit.” (FUSE)
A few years ago, Drizzy spoke on the significance of the yearly awards ceremony and what it meant to even land a nomination.
“To get any type of Grammy accolade or anything, it’s cliche but it’s a dream come true in the literal sense, that thing you have between sleeping and waking up. That time spent I used to think about being on the stage and being able to thank the people that have done so much for me in my life. And I remember the first time I went to the Grammy Awards and I looked at the set up of it at The Kodak Theater and it was like man, this is very similar to the dream I’ve been having since the ‘Degrassi’ days. I’ve been having this dream, I never knew where it was and it never really specified what the award was, but I knew it was a night I could let the people know–the people in my life know–how much they have done with me. To have four opportunities to have that chance is incredible.” (Global Grind)
