Young Money’s Drake has announced that he will be extending his Away From Home tour to Europe and Canada.
In addition to his own headlining dates, Drake will also be opening for Jay-Z.
Due to the overwhelming success of the first half of Drake’s Away From Home Tour, the Toronto MC recently announced that he’s adding a slew of new dates. The Young Money artist, who is now slated to open for Jay-Z at the MEN Arena in Manchester, UK on June 7 and the LG Arena in Birmingham, UK on June 9, has added his own European and Canadian tour stops as well. He’ll also participate in three European festivals – Hove, Roskilde, and Wireless- and end his tour with his own OVO Festival. (XXL Mag)
Prior to the tour kicking off, Drake said his shows would feature a live band.
“It’s a musical experience, it’s about a mood,” he says. “Women can come out and feel sexy. It’s gonna be good. I picked the show that I would be at, you know? I don’t know how people are gonna receive it. I hope that they come to my tour with an open mind, because it’s not me and Pleasure P and Trey Songz. It’s not what people would necessarily expect. It’s not the tour that’s based around hip-hop or R&B music. To me it’s based aroundrefreshing sounds.” (Rolling Stone)
He also explained why Young Money artists were not billed to tour with him.
“A lot of the Young Money artists are doing their own thing,” Drake said in an interview. “I know Nicki [Minaj] is recording her album. Gudda is on a run right now. It was never brought to me that anybody had the time permitting to be on this tour for two months. Everybody is working on their albums and stuff like that. I love what a lot of people in Young Money have going on right now. But at the same time, I did say to myself I didn’t want other rappers on this tour opening up. I didn’t want to stick anybody in my opening slot. Nicki Minaj is a superstar, so to ask her to be on [the tour], unless we split the tour and both had equal time.” (MTV)
The rapper recently performed at the Bamboozle Festival in New Jersey.
Drake and Ke$ha are the latest artists added to the Bamboozle Festival roster, joining MGMT, Paramore, Mike Posner and Weezer. Drake will be performing right before Paramore on May 1 and Ke$ha on both May 1 and 2. (AZ Central)
