Drake Goes Back To Drawing Board, Starts Work On “Take Care” Follow-Up

Young Money rapper Drake recently updated fans on the status of his Take Care follow-up LP and acknowledged his sophomore album's one-year anniversary.

Drake hopped onto Twitter this week and revealed he has already started investing time into the third solo effort.

“Its been exactly one year since Take Care dropped. Sitting in our new studio working on the next album. Just want to say thank you.,” Drake tweeted November 15th. (Drake’s Twitter)

Last summer, the Young Money rapper reflected on his second LP and beating the sophomore jinx.

“I feel like with every project we do there’s growth and with every project I do, I become more comfortable with the artist I am,” Drake told MTV News’ Sway Calloway backstage at a recent stop on his Club Paradise tour. “Take Care solidified a lot of things for me. [It’s] a list of things that would probably be too immense to go through, but it solidified a lot of things and let me know what I want to do, and who I want to be. … [It’s interesting] to see artists that have a real impact on the world. We live in a generation where there is nothing necessarily to fight for politically. … [There’s] nothing necessarily for me to step up and say I want to fight for, but there is a way for me to give moments to the world, and to bear my emotions and hope that I’m remembered as that guy who was able to bring people together. I want to be that guy. I want to bring people together.” (MTV)

Last November, Drizzy’s Take Care LP sold over 600,000 copies after seven days in stores.

Young Money star Drake’s Take Care debuted on the chart this week at No. 1, in front of Michael Buble‘s Christmas which sold 165,500 copies. According to Nielsen SoundScan, Drizzy’s new LP has sold 631,500 records in just a single week. (SOHH Sales Wrap)

Days after its 2011 release, the rap star hinted at piecing together Take Care‘s follow-up.

“I never save music, that’s one thing I never dude — because music, to me, is like a sketch book so I’ll do a drawing like Take Care and the whole album cycle is a drawing. That’s how I felt on that day. November 15th, I just turned the page over so now it’s a new day. I started writing last night. I started writing the intro to my next project last night. I found the sample and I started piecing it together the story, where I’m at in my life. Started piecing the drawing. I started that and flipped the page” (Wild 94.1)
