Young Money star Drake talked about working on his upcoming Thank Me Later follow-up solo album and why he is prepared to go against his label's wishes this time around.
According to Drake, it is vital that he does not limit how many songs and interludes are featured on the sophomore project.
“Take Care is it’s own mission,” Drake said in an interview. “I’m really going back to the So Far Gone where, first of all, as much as the label and people are fighting me, I’m not doing 14 songs, ’cause it doesn’t give me enough. I want to do interludes, transitions and different moments. I have an overabundance. I’ve never had this many raps…It’s gonna be an experience…I often hear people reference So Far Gone and Comeback Season, ‘Aww, we miss that.’ And while that was a point in time they miss, I was an underdog, and that will never happen again, unfortunately…That’s not to say I can’t provoke those same emotions…I really want to write great ‘life’ raps. I just want to write for the people and speak for my generation.” (Shade 45)
Last month, Drake’s sophomore album title was revealed along with some production speculation.
Drake’s Thank Me Later was a platinum smash around the world, spawning the hits “Over” and “Find Your Love” but Drizzy’s not resting on his debut’s success, even claiming that he may have made mistakes in the album’s production, promising that his second album would make up for any shortfalls. Production on Drake’s second album reportedly comes from 9th Wonder and DJ Premier so far, but every album in “pre-production” in hip-hop is produced by those two so we’ll see. The title Drake’s picked out for the album is Take Care. We will. (RWD Mag)
Earlier this year, Drake said he was contemplating a different album title.
Drake’s debut album hasn’t even hit stores yet, but he’s already thinking of a second album title. Moments is the name he’s been tossing around for his sophomore effort, reports the Los Angeles Times. While nothing has been set in stone, he explained the reasoning behind the title. “Hip-hop is all about moments,” said the 23-year-old rapper. “You look at people who were hot three or four years ago who are sitting around reminiscing. It’s fickle. It’s agame of moments. I’m the moment right now.” (Rap-Up)
Hip-Hop pioneer DJ Premier recently revealed his involvement on Drake’s next LP.
“I met Drake at the Jay-Z and Eminem concert at Yankee Stadium. A good friend of mine does some charity work for Derek Jeter and was also working with Drake…He told me Drake wanted to come say ‘what’s’ up real quick before he got on the stage with Jay…He said ‘Yo next album I want to do some stuff [with you]’ and that’s pretty much the end of it.’ He comes down and sits down next to us to watch the show and everybody in all the other suites next to us started bugging. He was just chilling there and not acting like he was too cool.” (VIBE)
