Drake Finally Addresses Getting Rejected At NBA Finals: “I Don’t Blame Him, He Was Like 89 Years Old”

Young Money's Drake has finally come clean on the Internet frenzy he sparked back in June when the Miami Heat won the NBA Finals in Game 7 and how he was denied access into their locker room for the celebration.

Even though he caught the wrath of the Internet poking fun, Drizzy admitted he found the entire incident amusing.

“As I joke, I tried to go in with the media through the media entrance,” he said, “as they were all swarming in. That was a great night, one of the greatest nights of my life. But that was probably the highlight, getting denied by that old guy and it making news everywhere. That’s a classic moment. I’m allowed to go in the Heat locker room for the most part, I just tried to do it in a funny way. It didn’t work out for me, I’ll never do it again.” (Highly Questionable)

The rap star noted the security guard’s age and lack of knowledge caused him to suffer a caught-on-video rejection.

“It’s good to know that that [security] guy is doing his job,” Drake continued. “Some things are sacred, for example, like the Heat locker room on the night of the NBA Finals. Not anybody should be able to walk in there, and he clearly knows zero Drake songs. I don’t blame him, he was like 89 years old. I understand, hats off to that gentleman who was doing due diligence as security.” (Highly Questionable)

In the 16-second clip, Drizzy is seen trying to go into the Heat’s locker room for the champagne party.

Rapper Drake is a close friend of both LeBron James and Dwyane Wade. He tried to get to the locker room Thursday to celebrate the Heat’s back-to-back championships with they dynamic duo but was rejected. You hope that poor security guard doesn’t wind up getting fired. He doesn’t know who the guy is, and he doesn’t have a badge. I can tell you security was extra tight for Game 7 Thursday night so it’s no surprise that even in the maelstrom following the Heat’s victory that someone without a pass was denied. I guess he started from the bottom and still couldn’t get to the level where he can get past security. Or, if you prefer, ahem…. Last name denied, first name access… (CBS Sports)

Despite the arena incident, Drizzy eventually teamed up with King James at a nearby club.

After the Miami Heat won their second-straight NBA title last night, they retreated to Club Story for the traditional celebration party. At last year’s party, LeBron James wore a shirt with a picture of himself as a vampire on it, and sang on stage alongside Redfoo from LMFAO. This year, perhaps because he was so spent from a grueling seven-game NBA Finals series, he was a bit more passive. He appeared on stage at Story with Dwyane Wade and R&B artist Drake. At one point, they ordered pizza to the stage, and LeBron ate pizza and danced a little bit while Drake took the mic next to him. (Business Insider)
