Young Money star Drake has decided to fall back on releasing his “Started From the Bottom” single Grammy Awards night and opted in dropping it heading into the weekend.
Drizzy hopped onto his October’s Very Own blog to treat fans to an early release of his third album’s first single.
“My good friends, It has truly been too long. I assume you’re all keeping well and making the most of this year that has been given to us. Today is the day to begin sharing my newest work with you. This is the first single off of my upcoming album. I feel sometimes that people don’t have enough information about my beginnings and therefore they make up a life story for me that isn’t consistent with actual events. My family and my second family (consisting of the best friends anybody could ever have) all struggled and worked extremely hard to make all this happen.” (October’s Very Own)
The Canadian hip-hop star also explained his reasoning for releasing the track via his website rather than build up press around it.
“I did not buy my way into this spot and it was the furthest thing from easy to achieve. I am proud of every part of my past and I’m excited for this song to find a place in your life as well. I didn’t feel I needed any interviews or radio or press to launch this song. It felt right to come back to the site that I started on and release it to the people that started here with me. Judging by this post, the tour that we’ve been planning, the conversations about new songs and album artwork…I think it’s safe to say we’re back together again. Looking forward to seeing you all soon.” (October’s Very Own)
On the record, the platinum-selling rapper exposes fans to his personal life struggles.
With the track’s first verse Drake rhymes about the conflicts he had with his mother while he was still mapping out his then-uncertain future in music. “I done kept it real from the jump/ Livin’ at my mama’s house, we’d argue every month,” he spit telling another piece of the story that he began to lay out on 2009’s “Successful.” (MTV)
Initial plans were for “Started From the Bottom” to debut on February 10th.
Drake is done resting on the bench. His representatives at Universal Music told Billboard that the rapper will be throwing us a new track on the night of the 55th Annual Grammy Awards. According to the magazine, the new track is called ‘Started From the Bottom.’ It’s obvious Drake wants to make the Grammys his big moment. The rapper’s sophomore effort, ‘Take Care,’ released in November 2011, is nominated for Best Rap Album. (The Drop)
